now i am told that they have enabled the multiplier to be changed in the bios.i have the memory and m.b. but no cpu yet.if i knew for sure i would just get a regular 1.2 t-bird instead of waiting for the "c"

who told you about the bios multiplier thing? ASUS has been keeping us in the dark about a lot of things for this board.

Hey guys !

I poseted a topic some days ago specifying that i got rev 1.04 A7M266 and that there are no DIPS on it... Apparently AMD insisted that ASUS take them of.. BTW, the silk screen is still there, all is needed is a set of DIPs and a soldering iron, and i shall mod it happilly...

BTW, my mobo came with BIOS 1002 and there is no trace of CPU pultiplier unlocker in there... it only shows greyd out at what multiplier that CPU is currently running... And i have this feeling that even though ASUS will release tons of BIOS updates for this board, they will not add multiplier control...

Damn, i'm also still waiting for the 266Mhz Athlons... if any one finds them, plz post.

DealBabe, that's where I was going to get mine. I think all the boards have one set of dips near the 1st PCI slot (for fsb adjustment) ...you mean yours also has a 2nd set of dips in the top right corner for multiplier settings?

your right, only one set of dips..
my bad..

anyways, im having some compatibility probs in win98se

it crashes in games a bit, might be a cdrom problem...because it runs quake 3 arena damnarse fast... but in games that use the cdrom a bit, i get crashes.

Might also be the vio1 jumper.. Its default is 2.7 volts, and ddr mem run at 2.5 volts.. but there is not setting in the manual for 2.5 volts...

i did install the amd agp miniport driver on the cd..

can some1 provide a link to the latest miniport driver from amd?

Deal Babe - I think that there is a jumper somewhere on the board that you can take off to set the voltage to 2.5..... read about it on a review somewhere.....

yep, thats the link i provided 3 posts up..
but i was in a forum elsewhere, and some1 mentioned the manual was wrong, and that the real settings are on the motherboard itself..
so i will get home and check it out

That stinks about the multiplier control. So how can AMD "insist" that Asus take them off? Because it's an AMD chipset? Oh brother, here we go. Looks like now that AMD is getting big time they're going to start practicing the ways of Chipzilla, using their power to leverage control and start sqeezing every last dime out of you they can.

That's just so stupid. It's only po' folks like us that change the multipliers anyway! Of course sometimes when you could afford the fastest chip it's still more fun to get a cheaper one and overclock it, then spend the difference on higher end components elsewhere. But still, what percentage of the population is actually doing this? Just us freaks and geeks who actually enjoy stuff like that! It's nothing! It's pennies to them! And in reality it doesn't make them more money, it just insures that we'll all have slower computers!:|
