That's simply not true. There are MANY of them that can be bought for below $10,000, $3,000-$8,000 is normal for quite a few of the subguns, MAC10, UZI's, hell, I've seen HK auto sears go for $5,000. This is no where near out of range.

select fire weapons that have automatic mode? pretty hard to get one for a civilian . . . not sure if they're PROHIBITED but i don't think they hand out permits for those easily

Select fire means you can select the fire mode, semi-auto, burst, or full auto, some have all three, some have only semi/full. They aren't prohibited, and pretty much if you have the money, and qualify to buy a handgun, you can buy a machine gun. $200 for the tax stamp, 2x passport photos, 2x fingerprint cards, and sign off letter from the local CLEO/or a trust, and three to six months wait.

Select-fire weapons made before 1968 are able to be owned by civilians. It is a pain in the butt to be cleared by the ATF though. I don't think any post-1968 automatic weapon is legal to own.

As libtard with not but a .22 bolt, I'd probably want a lever .357 or .30-30 with a forward scope added, somehow (some newer ones can come with such mounts from the factory, it seems), if I wanted to get a gun for playing with. Woe is me, for I would be shunned by the tacticool conservatards . ^_^
