Has anyone heard of a demo yet for the PC?

Last I heard there is not going to be one. :(

That's a shame. I really would prefer to try the demo before I buy this game, unless I can find it very cheap.

I saw a lot of people raving about The Witcher, but I tried the demo and hated it, which is why I like to try demos as often as I can before laying my cash down.

IRC, the Witcher demo only included the first Act, which was by far the worst one. The full game really is worth every penny, and it's sad that this aRPG beats out every other recent "RPG" on the market (possible exception being MotB).

So true. A lot of my friends were raving about The Witcher, so I tried the demo and thought it was mediocre at best. I was then told that the demo only included the first act, which was far and away the worst one (poor choice for a demo), so I took the dive and bought the game. I'm glad I did as I had an absolute blast with it. Demo's have to be taken with a grain of proverbial salt.

My biggest problem was with the combat mechanics. If those do not change later on in the game, then I don't think it will make a difference to me, which is a shame because I really wanted to like it.

KT

There are some additions to combat, but no major alterations on what you would have seen/have problems with. I'll admit at first I thought the combat system was boring as well, but for whatever reason I moved past that and found the game to be very enjoyable. Now, I'm not trying to say everyone will change their opinion in a similar manner to mine, but it's possible. If the combat system REALLY turns you off, as it only bothered me mildly, then it's probably best to not buy the game.

you could also just not fight as well. it means not doing the "save the civilian" missions but i understand you don't get anything out of it anyway.

Still playing it on the 360 on occasion, not thrilled overall but it is decent enough. I wanted it on the PC but the company first said no PC version so I bought the 360 version. Oh well. Live and learn.

Does Assassin';s creed actually require a dual core? I'm still running on a fast single core and haven't seen a real need to upgrade yet.

You and me both, I also did not care for the Witcher demo. :(
I guess I'll have to wait til a demo comes out or just pass on this one.

Well ain't that 'nice'... (INQ link incomming):

http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/...isoft-nixes-first-dx10

Seems the performance increase from DX10.1 in AA was 'a bug' and it lowers IQ. Though if hardOCP didn't find any anomalies, I seriously doubt there are any. They tend to be pretty detailed with things like that (doesn't mean I like their performance analysis charts, they're just thorough in many aspects).

Ubisoft will be removing support for DX10.1  If none of the game reviews noticed any anomalies and praised the performance boost with DX10.1 it smells like pressure from nVidia for me. And it smells from far away ;) Seems they're grabbing any possibility to remove any advantage the Radeons have (since Assasin's Creed is a TWIMTBP title). Probably also due to the 4000-series launch pretty soon. I'm guessing the Green Camp would get obliterated with the pressumed-much-faster-than-HD3800 cards supporting DX10.1 too :) Anyway, take it as you wish.

I "demoed" the first couple levels and have since deleted it having decided not to buy it. It was not fun. Games like this is why they need demos.

I just finished it. I really enjoyed it. I understand the "repetitive" criticisms, but frankly, I was still having fun just running around the cities anyways.

not quite finished, but I imagine I'm right about there. agree with you. for some reason, running up on a guard that's shoving around an old man and driving a knife in his neck just does not get old. game does get repetitive, but I've had tremendous fun with every level (aside from the inevitable 100 mile treks across the desert on horseback).

It's been a fun game to play in 30-45 minute chunks.

The assassination on the ship was definitely my favorite thus far...nothing like running through the shipyard with 20 guards right behind me.

I just finished the game today - same complaints, kind of repetitive at times, especially the fighting... I hated the beggars, but the free-running was fun, and I actually enjoyed the story line, although it was a little predictable.

Only real complaint I have was the lab scenes - kind of annoying only being able to walk.

*sigh*, maybe it's finally time for me to upgrade... my 2.7 gHz Opteron 165, DDR 400 RAM and 8800 GTS 320 just aren't cutting it anymore for these new games...

Somebody needs to find out how to completely rework the keys. It's just idiotic how they kept the console system. Any mods available yet?
