Had a rough time trying to get Windows installed on my new SSD, took me a while (probably too long) to figure out that the SSD would only be detected if it was plugged into a SATA2 port instead of each of the SATA3 sockets I originally tried. Installing windows now. Might I be able to use the SATA3 ports once I get all my drivers and everything installed? Seems to me they should just work right away, so it's got me a bit worried they just don't work. Is it uncommon for something like that to not work on a motherboard but have everything else on the board work just fine?

Thanks for reading, have a ninja smiley! :ninja:

If those are Intel controller ports, and not Marvell, then yes, they should "just work". You may have an RMA on your hands.

That's what I was thinking previously but I've heard from a couple others that they need drivers to work, at least with Windows 7. Not exactly sure where to find those drivers, though. Mobo disc has a lot of drivers but seemingly nothing referring to the SATA3 ports.

Yeah, as your other thread suggests, you shouldn't expect anything to be working full tilt without drivers installed, mainly chipset drivers. Those controllers listed in other devices are important.

Well luckily SATA2 works without drivers or else I wouldn't be able to get anything installed, heh. Having trouble figuring out what drivers I need to install, tis confusing.

thanks

Gotcha, if you install the Asrock drivers one by one, what happens? I would say the most important drivers right now would be:
1. the Intel chipset drivers
2. The Ethernet Drivers

Wouldn't be surprised if Windows Update got most of the rest.

Well I've installed every driver I could find (except for onboard VGA and Lan driver) and the SATA3 ports still aren't functional. Shit.
