Asking too much?

Two weeks ago, my rear projection TV died. I did some fiddling with it and didn't think it was worth my effort to get it back up and running, so I moved it to the corner and started looking for a new TV. Bought a projector instead and love it. I mentioned that my TV died to a coworker and he says "Really, what's wrong with it?" I said I didn't know, but if he wanted it he could have it and try to fix it himself. Over the next two days he annoys the shit out of me asking what's wrong with it and wants me to go online with him and figure it out. I find a post on a website saying the convergence IC could have gone bad and could be reaplaced cheap. Find a couple of the chips on ebay and ordered them for him as he doesn't have a paypal account. $16 which he gives me cash.

Anyway, the chips come in and he says "Ok, how do I take it apart? Can I just bring it in and have you do it?"

In my opinion, I've already helped him enough. I gave him a $2k TV for free and found the parts for it which could fix it. Now he wants me to take it apart and fix it for him? If I'm going to fix the damned thing, I might as well keep it.

It just pisses me off, if I'm going to do all the work, why should I just give it to him?

Am I right or am I just a baby whining?

This is where the new me tells you that if you do something kind for him, the kindness will be repaid to you.

The old me would tell you to either charge him for the TV or demand some kind of favor in return.

Which me you listen to is up to you.

Why don't you grow some balls and tell this to him :p Communication, it's a wonderful thing.

But yes, charge him and tell him your time is not free.

Hell no, tell him you've decided to keep it yourself after thinking about the investment you put in it and just buy the $16 parts off him. If this was something along the lines of a toaster oven, I'd say let him have it, but a $2k tv? No sir!

You've already done so much, may as well fix it for him too, then deliver it to him, then set up his media center. Won't hurt to give him your projector just in case the tv goes bust again.

Just tell him that the deal was for the TV - as is. Ask do you want the deal or not?

I can't believe the nerve of some people when it comes to what they expect from a freebie. Tell him, look, if I intended to spend any more time on it, I would do so for myself and not be offering it to you, dumbass.

Tell him to go fuck himself. Or if you need to be nice to him say that you're busy.

It's not that I let people walk all over me because to be honest, I'm usually very to the point and most people would even say I'm an asshole. But the guy is a friend of sorts and I just didn't want to by a total asshole by taking the thing back.

Didn't want to be "one of those people."

Jugs

EDIT: He already picked up the TV from my house, so I'm just going to tell him to fix it himself.

WTF

Tell him to pick it up or you're tossing it in the trash. Then fix it and sell it on craigslist.

Fix the tv. Rig it with C-4. Drop the tv off at his place.

Wait outside with a video camera. Put video on YouTube.
