I moved to America when I was 4 and a half so ethnically I'm Japanese but culturally I'm pretty American

Japanese people keep to themselves. No one will talk smack to you or really care about what others do while they're out in public. In private, people do hold opinions and what not. The thought that half Japanese people aren't accepted probably lives in the previous generation (think "get off my lawn" generation, aka old people), most people now (so under 35) are accepting of others, regardless of their ethnic background.

Ultimately it's like the US, different people have different opinions.

My kids (half-Japanese) went to Japanese school for a month this summer, and they were treated as the most popular kids. My daughter even created a Japanese to English dictionary for her class. I think the standard opinion is changing.

I'm a legal resident alien (green card holder) so I'm not an American but a Japanese citizen.

So you didn't have a choice when you turned 18, or will have a choice to hold both when you seek US citizenship? My kids, from what I'm told, will have to choose between Japanese citizenship or US citizenship at 18. I didn't think you could hold both.

Our family buys S&B Wasabi (and hot mustard)

S&B (while good) is made from horseradish. It's hard to get real wasabi even in Japan.

Personal question if you are willing to answer (even if via PM, though feel free to not answer), but as a half-Japanese child in the South (which is where my kids are growing up) did you ever experience any issues with other children/parents/teachers?

I presume the culture around halfies have changed and I'm happy to hear that. I regret (although I'm full Japanese), not full learning Japanese (I know conversational but not reading and writing, well I know it, just not well). I would check to see if there are any Japanese schools (usually held on Saturdays) around your area.

As a green card holder, I get to keep my Japanese citizenship and stay in America as a "legal resident alien". When your kids (assuming one of y'all have a Japanese citizenship and American citizenship), your kids will have to choose one when they turn 18. I have heard of people not notifying the Japanese government and (secretly) holding both.

I didn't know S&B was horseradish, good to know.

Some do that here in Finland (post 'em to you). You get used panties together with a photo that proves that they were on a real woman. There was a piece of new not so long time ago about it. xD
