It's part of that neocon "American exceptionalism" thing - you're our enemy, or our vassal.
And they desperately need "enemies" to distract us from the looting spree here on the homefront...
Well... I don't know what Dari's angle is, but it doesn't seem to be neocon. The article was a thinly-disguised pro-Japan piece supporting the removal of the American military presence from Okinawa, which the Obama administration outright rejected (and which I believe most neocons would likely agree with).
The OP's spin that this makes Asians view Obama as weak and capitulating to China is something he seems to have just made up all on his own. Like it or not, China is the major player in the region and needs to be treated as such.
And if anything, the American presence on Okinawa is just as threatening to China as it is to Japan (go look at a map).
