I think there is a lot of racism between blacks and asians, on both side.

That's what a lot of asian business owners feel toward blacks. Is it racist, depends on who you ask. Sometimes it's true, sometimes not.

I am a Japanese-American (for classification sake) but an American through and through. I grew up in NYC probably one of the most ethnically diverse places in the US. Of course being a minority, you tend to have to face a little racism. But even now as a 32 year old I still get racial insults from blacks. It is almost never from any other group. I don't know if blacks just speak louder or their minds more freely but it always seems to be from blacks.

Mind you, I don't really have anything against blacks, I went to public school in NYC so half the kids I went to school were black. But even back then, I'd say the majority of racial insults were from blacks.

I remember an incident just several months ago walking to the subway in Times Square while going home from work. I was in my suit and carrying my briefcase and 2 black guys came up to me and said ching chong this and ching chong that and how I thought I was hot sh!t because I was wearing a suit. I was like "WTF"? Then I remember an incident a couple months before that in Grand Central Station. It was crowded and I was walking to my train. I accidentally bumped some teenage black girl and said sorry. I walked about 10 steps when all of a sudden someone kicked my feet and my shoe went flying off. I turn around and the black girl and her boyfriend are laughing at me and calling me beloved patriot this and that. Seriously, if I had been a violent person, I would have killed them since I was so much bigger than both of them but I just shook them off as ignorant youths.

This sort of stuff happens alot more than you think. I think there is a racial stereotype of asians as being non-confrontational and subserviant and to a degree, I think it is correct. I think a lot of blacks who have problems with asians know this trait and take advantage of it. From my point of view, this is where I think the asian opinion towards blacks comes from. It only takes a few negative actions for people to view entire groups in a bad light.

For me, I've been insulted by practically all racial groups, even Japanese-Japanese so maybe I'm a little immune to these actions but some people aren't as level headed as me and that is where I think these problems begin.

We stay in the philippines for a year then went to America. We didn't know anyone here. WE don't have much. Our apartment have 6 people with 2 bedroom in it.
NO AC. It was bad but we're used to the hot weather in Vietnam. My uncle first job is a cleaner. Clean office building, bathroom. Stuff like that. Then he became a carpenter, Janitor........
5 years ago, he work for a bakery company delivering bread. He's still working at the bakery company. He work from 9PM till 2PM 6 days a week. HE manage to save money to send
back to Vietnam and save some also. Just 2 months ago, he just bought a brand new house for $320k. Being build right now. I don't know how he manage to save that much
money to down payment the house but he did. I guess asian people work harder because they see oppertunity here in the state. >>




well in this case it doesnt seem to be asian in particular but immigrants in general ...

I completely agree to this statement.
Asians tend to be non-confrontational and blacks take advantage of that. First generation asians in this country cannot speak english well thus cannot defend themselves. As more and more teenage asians become fluent, this racial discrimination from the blacks will eventually decrease (I hope)

Also, please stand up for yourselves. I know I am.

hey there i'm also lifetime new yorker and i agree with your experiences. if i had to say, the other 'group' would be Spanish. It's a shame though.

All I know is I have met and befriended people from both these ethnicities but come from middle class backgrounds and I feel their speech/grammar, manners, ambition are at totally different levels than the losers who seem to have too much energy while roaming the streets 'chilling.'

If you watch children from 3-6 yrs old no matter what ethnicity, they get along alot better than when the get older. it comes from a combination of seeing what happens to their parents, experiencing what the parents experience, or from what the parents 'teach' them to believe about others.

ultimately i think parents hold the big key, not to say the only key by no means,
in either broadening horizons or limiting them but it's sad when you see kids gravitate away from synergy as they grow older.

Of course...but 2nd-generation people of any ethnicity are better off than their parents. Stuff doesn't change because there will always be Asian Americans who immigrated recently with another poor race to live among...

make no mistake, there are plenty of blacks who aren't born here either.

but whereas there's a "fobby' Asian, we don't distinguish "fobby" blacks do we, but there certainly are around.

in the chinese communities i've been in, that has never happened, because there are better things to do than to just sit around and talk about other people. if you think minorities just sit around and talk about people that are different from them, i suspect you either have never been in a minority community, or you've hanging around the wrong ones.

Hey it's the tool of the month! Just because you're so narrow minded that and have limited experience hanging out with minorities doesn't make them all racist. Maybe you're just hanging out with the wrong ones. I have friends who are white, black, Asian, Indian, and Mexican - it doesn't matter who I'm hanging out with - if someone comes up to us and wants to hang out it's a little weird with the exception of a party.

i get the feeling you're talking about impoverished minorities eh? it's not just minorities... poverty often breeds racism and stuff... like chris rock said, "ain't nothing scarier than some poor white people... 'space shuttle blew up? those damn n*ggers did it!'". i'm not saying all poor people are racist or anything, but i really think the poverty makes a lot of people more bitter than they would normally be.

Being one myself, I had never any racial slurs or comments by a Black/White/Hispanic ever. Guess I never been to or lived in a bad neighbourhood. However post 9/11 some people look at us different becuase of our similar apperance to ARABS/Terrorists.
Well here is my thought on it. India has been fighting islamic terrorists for last 10 years and lost 70,000 people to it. So we are in the same boat.

Once I tell people about the real story, they are all fine. All humans have a good part. If you can touch that good part, you are a winner.

America is a true multi ethnic enviornment . And I think it is the best place for a person of any race to live and succeeed.

All one needs is dedication, hard work, work ethics, mutual understanding and free thinking.

IMO it's not a race thang but a class divide. If your parents were to open a business in the hills or Arkansas which is predomnietly white and poor they would feel the same resentment and resulting backlash that ignorance brings from the poor white folks living there. Many poor, blacks, whites, central chineese, East Timorans ect. feel your taking advantage of thier plight becasue 1)you have the money to start the business and 2)you chose to open it not in your own community (color is a factor here unfortunatly). They resent this and thier poverty in general and you happen to be a close and easy target for them to vent thier fustrations. Thier poverty is not your fault but they feel you are victimizing them by even being there.

ah, but i thought you said "all minorities" are racist? you should reword it if you want to make exceptions.
also, i don't think it has anything to do with race there when you can't 'hang' with a group of minorities. it just feels weird
with anyone if you are in a hood and walk into a group of strange people (even if they're your race).
