LOL, Asian tamale. Around here joung has lap cheung, peanuts, preserved egg, and roast pork in it. The lo mai gai is just meat.

EDIT: And it's kind of funny that this thread comes up right before Chinese New Years. My relatives always exchange gifts and food and junk during Chinese New Years so this coming week my parent's house will probably have at least a dozen joung's given to us by relatives (most of which we never even finish), along with crazy amounts of liquor.

yea, when my grandma made joung, we gave a lot away. i swear those things probably used to be made as portable lunches for workers or something long ago. convenience food or something.

an aquired taste. kinda like thousand year old egg. the black eggs.... stuff u can scare white people with. heck, they fed white people thousand year old egg as a "challange" on fear factor... i was like wtf🙂

Lo mai gai is the fairly large variety of the dim-sum version(1 per order, about 4-5 inches square side)... "jun gee gai"(the jun is not the same pronounciation as the above mentioned "joung") is the small variety found in dim sums, around 3 inches square side)
