Edit:Didn't realize already an SNL thread, there are screen caps in that one if you want to see the video.
yep, b/c just like a lot of her types she can't sing to save her ass. it's all studio work so she has to lip sync.

You're expecting an industry-manufactured pop star to actually have real talent?! She sucks, her music sucks, and nobody will give a flying fvck who she is 20 years from now.

Anyway, if Ashlee wasn't dancing, she should've been singing. Mistake 1. Too bad the technical team failed her little act. Mistake 2. Nice of the band to try to cover for her though.

Yeah, the band was being very professional. But you can't polish a turd.

What a moron. Just jump in late....even I can do that when I'm singing along to the radio.

If I'm not mistaken, most of the people who sing on SNL lipsynch. It doesn't really matter.

Wow - I actually feel sorry for her. That must have been incredibly embarrassing, and if I were her I'd be thinking of what became of Milli Vanilli after their similar incident (though in all fairness, they were playing at a paid concert, and she's too young to remember that whole debacle).

IMO, if you make your living singing and performing, then you damned well better be singing and performing.

Well, she is really bad. I was at the Mall of America with some friends to see The Village (ugh... I was a lame night) and when we got out of the theater we heard this aweful singing. I thought someone had hooked up one of those record your own music video booths to a PA as a practical joke but, nope, It was Ashlee Simpson singing away.

It was the beginning of the song, she got caught lip synching (and didn't even try to correct it, just walked off the stage), so of course, the band tries to cover for her by playing the rest of the song.

As you saw, they cut to commercial, and she blamed it on the band playing the wrong song at the end of the show :\.

It was her second set of the show. Apparently the band started playing a different track, but whomever was in charge of cueing her lic-sync track started the same song they had played in her first set. The band gamely tried to adapt by playing the song for the second time, but AS bopped off the stage in embarrassment rather than singing it for a second time (I think she had already missed most or all of the first verse by that time). Ouch.

Speaking as a criminal defense attorney (it colors my perception of things generally), I think her publicist screwed her by letting her offer up such a lame and obviously dishonest explanation. Now she has not only been exposed lip-syncing, she has told a transparent lie to the public about it, and one that makes her look worse (by virtue of the fact she blamed her band for what happened).

It might have been worthwhile to let her go out and make a red-faced, generic apology at the end of the show, but I would have left the whole thing alone. That way, her publicist could have come out during the week and made some phony-baloney claim about how she had never lip-synced before, but that she did it because she was under the weather, because SNL had recommended it, or some other plausible-sounding explanation.
