a. President Bush hasn't done anything substantive to "reach out to the left," though I hope it's a good sign he's saying he means to. OTOH, he's also saying he intends to use his "political capital" to push his agenda.

And thats what I meant....I didn't like Ashcroft either. But there is so much hatred for Bush right now by the left, they will pick whoever it is apart.

Speaking only for myself, I could literally scarcely imagine a worse choice for AG than Ashcroft, so I'm willing to wait and see. Regardless of one's personal religious beliefs, I think it's just an awful thing to have an AG who is such a religious fundamentalist that he believes dancing is immoral. His beliefs are so strong and so extreme that they can't help but color his perspective toward his job, and in fact he has presided over what I consider some horrific trampling on civil rights (most notably the treatment of the Gitmo detainees). You could pick any licensed attorney in the US at random and get a far better man or woman for the job.

Well, by your own admission, getting rid of Ashcroft can only be a good thing, yet he is still getting bashed for it by the left on this board.
