as a neighbor do you care what your neighbor's yard looks like?

overgrown lawns give rodents and their predators cover and living quarters. we never had a problem when the old neighbors lived behind us and cut their lawn.

Then I live in Cali for 8 months in a very nice neighborhood and my car got broken into once and stolen once in 3 weeks. I then had to park it in the garage or else it'd be gone by now.

gotta love cali

my gsr has been stolen twice, once in front of a well lit church while i was visiting my gf, second time was when i went to visit my parents home where the house values are upwards of a $1,000,000.

Don't piss your neighbors off too much, or they will ask for an ordinance that force you to cut your lawn every other day.

It's their property - they can do what ever the fvck they want to it. Afraid of your land value going down?!? - too fvcking bad, you are not guaranteed the right for your property to go up in value.

It's certainly sad - but they are within' their rights IMHO.

sorry we live in a P.U.D. love it or hate it everyone has to abide by the by-laws or risk penalties and subsequent foreclosure if they choose not to pay. then it's 'too fvcking bad' for the lazy idiot who has to move.

we got a notice this spring because our mailbox was not black enough. I was kind of upset but it's these 'rules' that keep the neighbor from growing a freaking meadow and leaving trash in his backyard just so we can enjoy the seasonal mosquito infestation.

Mosquitos do not come from overgrown lawns. I'm glad the facist organizations that are Homeowner's Associations are not prevalent here - and I will never live in a community that requires one. Have fun limiting your property rights!

Then you might want to watch out for laws being passed in your community.

More and more areas are passing these laws and if it's approved then I guess it's time to look for a new house to let run down. 😛

Who said that I don't maintain my yard? I spend 20+ hours a week working in it, you can have some of the tomatos and chilis from my garden if you'd like.

Never said you did but you must have a good garden if you grow these. 😛

Just saying I can see why this stuff happens when you go past some areas and the area looks great except for one house that is beyond hope. 😀

But IMHO, they should be allowed to do that. If they own the property, who am I, or the city, to tell them what kind of condition it must be kept in (within reason - no condemned buildings, etc). It's grass, it's not going to kill people.

Usually it's just not the grass that get's them in trouble but more how the buildings look and such.

Though I suppose when you need one of these that might be different. 😀

Which..if you live in San Jose, San Francisco or the likes...means you live in a dump for $1mil =/ I hate CA real estate.

Reminds me of that X-Files episode where that monster made of garbage would come and kill you if you didn't keep your house in proper order. Great episode.

Petrie! heh

I really like to have a nice landscaped home, so yes it would bother me. True it is your property, but to maintain just a "decent" looking lawn/yard really doesn't require too much effort, and it does help the neighbourhood.

I don't really care. I have a couple people on my street that don't cut their grass very often but I can't really complain to much since I never bother to bring out the weedeater. Running a weedeater around a chainlink fence is just a pain in the butt.

BTW I just finished a book by Bently Little called "The Association" about a psycho home owners association that has all kinds a weird rules and is very stricted about enforcing them, chopping off body parts strict 🙂.
