as a neighbor do you care what your neighbor's yard looks like?

I wait about 2 weeks to cut it but my neighbor always gives my subtle hints and crap. It doesn't look grotesque but at the end of 2 weeks it's a bit long. Obviously if you can get along with your neighbors it's better but I can't see why people really care what other lawns look like ?

because it brings down neighborhood property values???

we are in our first house and before we purchase a second we have decided that we will spend a few days checking out the neighbors.
sh!tty neighbors who don't keep up their yard, bring the trash cans in in a timely manner, or generally disrespect the area that they live should stay in Sec 8.

My neighbor's "yard" is about 2 feet tall. They cut it once this year. Part of mine is 3 or 4 feet tall. Stupid goldenrod. Neither of us cares that much.

If I lived in the city, though, I'd think that people worrying about grass that's 2 weeks old are pretty petty.

It's their property - they can do what ever the fvck they want to it. Afraid of your land value going down?!? - too fvcking bad, you are not guaranteed the right for your property to go up in value.

It's certainly sad - but they are within' their rights IMHO.

the chic behind us has only cut her grass once this summer. the weeds and bvllsh!t were literally taller than her 8yo son. that was 3 weeks ago when i was clearing some weeds that had grown through the fence into my yard behind our shed. i saw a tail of something scurry into her yard, so i told my son it was a snake since i knew he would tell her son on the bus the next day (one neighbor on my left actually did kill a snake in the corner when it ran out of her yard last year). that afternoon a couple of guys were out the cutting it, finally, and got a cable of some sort caught in their mower deck. the guy finished the job, but told her not to call him back, so who knows when it will get cut again. ive thrown things away the little sh!t has tossed into my yard, and tied to the fence. one was a coax cable for tv that was about 20ft long.

normally im not anal about those things. i dont cut my back yard but once every week to a week and a half. it doesnt get real high, but it needs the trim. but that type of idiocy and laziness demonstrated by her is just pathetic. by the time she paid those other guys to come mow, she couldve went down to wally world and bought a $100 murray special. lazy cvnt.

My left neighbors are great with the yard maintenance.(a retired couple)
My right neighbors are terrible.(Hispanic people with about 6 teenagers)

They have 2 broken down cars thats been sitting in the driveway for ages.
They always have 4-6 cars on their property....its like they have 3 families living there.
Theres always a car parked in the middle space that connect us.
Their lawns are in terrible condition.
They've even parked in front of my house sometimes.

Despite being dirty neighbors, they are pretty nice and we leave each others alone.
What surprises me is that they have these teenage Hispanic kids that are into cars and I have a Civic Si that have never been touched for 2 yrs.
Sometimes I forget to lock it through the night.

Then I live in Cali for 8 months in a very nice neighborhood and my car got broken into once and stolen once in 3 weeks. I then had to park it in the garage or else it'd be gone by now.

Many areas these days give you a warning to fix your yard if it gets bad and if you don't you get fines but this happens more in city areas.

sorry we live in a P.U.D. love it or hate it everyone has to abide by the by-laws or risk penalties and subsequent foreclosure if they choose not to pay. then it's 'too fvcking bad' for the lazy idiot who has to move.

we got a notice this spring because our mailbox was not black enough. I was kind of upset but it's these 'rules' that keep the neighbor from growing a freaking meadow and leaving trash in his backyard just so we can enjoy the seasonal mosquito infestation.

Mosquitos do not come from overgrown lawns. I'm glad the facist organizations that are Homeowner's Associations are not prevalent here - and I will never live in a community that requires one. Have fun limiting your property rights!

Then you might want to watch out for laws being passed in your community.

More and more areas are passing these laws and if it's approved then I guess it's time to look for a new house to let run down. :p

Who said that I don't maintain my yard? I spend 20+ hours a week working in it, you can have some of the tomatos and chilis from my garden if you'd like.

I don't know about rural areas but in urban areas you do NOT have an absolute right to do what you want with your property even if you own the real property outright.

Since most people are mortgagees, permissive waste is a sure-fire way to foreclosure, look in your mortgage documentation.

Never said you did but you must have a good garden if you grow these chilis. :p

Just saying I can see why this stuff happens when you go past some areas and the area looks great except for one house that is beyond hope. :D

But IMHO, they should be allowed to do that. If they own the property, who am I, or the city, to tell them what kind of condition it must be kept in (within reason - no condemned buildings, etc). It's grass, it's not going to kill people.

I rather live with in a HA community than have some trash with money move in next door.
