I'm perfectly happy with my 1080 Ti so far. Not really bothered about the Titan V especially at 3k. I will likely upgrade to the 2080 unless it's just a few % faster for $700.

Exactly. There is absolutely no need for anything better, for me. My main rig rocks every freakin' game. All eye candy maxed out. You're going to have to go to 8K to find a need for a better card (for gaming). Or until game developers put out something more demanding. Figure the odds on that with everything ported from consoles.

Appreciating your patience, they're called 2080 and the Ti is 1 year away from today give or take and, stockholders may have become used to the high prices and may not allow lowering.

He says gaming is part of the rig however it will probably never see a real AAA game to unleash those cards, because of this:
Ubuntu, MS 2012 Server R2, MS 2016 Server

and also the cards will never see a the full 16x bandwith pci-e lane gives ever because of cpu limitations,

and the crazy thing probably draws more power then my tesla in ludicrous mode.

I guess I've been buying GPUs long enough now to know that there is always more product in the pipeline. No matter where you buy in - there will always be another newer/faster MEGASUPERULTRA 9999 GTXXX coming - that will look appealing - because that is what it is supposed to do. I've really tried hard lately to take more of the long view and say - I want the most performance I can afford, right now - and let that be enough until it isn't. I am not excited about 3K GPUs and the exact moment that someone tells me I need that in order to get satisfactory game performance is the moment I tap out.

I tried out gaming on my 4k HDR TV recently, couldn't push Total Warhammer II at 60fps @ ultra on my 2050+ 1080 Ti OC which saddened me . Only 40ish FPS. The game looks a lot worse not at ultra, especially the trees and the shadows on trees and whatnot looks really bad without SSAO and ultra settings.

Made me hangry for the next card

Well I have a Titan XP which is slower than the Ti but it's still in midrange. But I still don't really feel outdone because I have a Titan V too. Mainly for epeen although sometimes I do get a few extra fps in 4k gaming. Not playing in 1440 or 1080 anymore atm and it's not OCed and neither are the CPUs & no sci or business processing.

Titan Xp is slower than a Ti?

Do you mean Titan X Pascal? Even then, there isn't a noticeable difference between the older Titan X Pascal and the 1080 Ti.

It's a Pascal, I saw the capital P in XP used before in the forums to mean the Titan X Pascal. Yeah it's about the same in speed as the Ti. Forgot about that.

1. The vast, vast majority of games run fine on Windows server (I personally did 2012R2 for a bit just for fun back in the day)
2. That machine is a dual Broadwell-EP build, on what looks like a Supermico X10DRG-Q board. It's wired for 16 lanes per x16 slot (including the 5th x16 slot at the top). The two x8 slots are wired at x8 and x4 each.

As for myself.. I bought my 1080Ti in Jan (yeah, yeah, ripoff, etc), and no, I don't feel like a pleb at all. Mind you, if the titan V was around the 1700-2000 mark, I'd have at least considered it.

actually as sad as i say it... adam our cards are. T

he reason is if you compare to something like eVGA's FTW3 or Kingpin series with 8+8 power pins vs ours which has a 8+6, and a much better heat sink, they overclock so much better then our titan xp's that it will edge ahead of it because of the clock speed count.

Add a waterblock on top, and well, that gap only gets wider with the better voltage delivery system.

now if you look at stock to stock, then its a toss up here and there unless you throw in something like the zotac amp extreme which has a stock clock of :

• Base: 1645 MHz
  Boost: 1759 MHz

vs our titan xp which has a boost clock of 1582mhz...

Sure, anything can be made to run faster with enough voltage thrown at it and aftermarket cooler. My two Titan Xps run a consistent 2000MHz and 12.4GHz memory without any of that sillyness.

and that's the thing... a comparable Ti, will easily run that speed along with having faster vram.

In gaming performance a Ti will beat a Titan Xp and max OC ability, a non reference design Ti will stomp a Titan Xp in overclocking and keeping the card cooler, unless its a terrible non reference design.

To be honest, we say the only time a reference design is better then a non reference design is if we have intentions to watercool it, as waterblocks are more readily available on reference cards.

Otherwise u always wait a bit, and grab the non reference design cards with the beerfier power regulators.
