Forgive me if a thread already exists, but I couldn't find it. A Google search and an AnandTech search both came up empty.

My friend saw Arrival at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) last month and he says it's totally awesome. And apparently those in the audience with him also think so too. It has finally hit 40 reviews over at Rotten Tomatoes, and it's 100% positive. This is the first time I've seen this happen for a movie like this, a big budget Hollywood sci-fi flick (albeit filmed in Montréal). In addition, at Metacritic it has a solid 80% after 16 reviews, which also bodes well.

Give the above, and given that it's helmed by the director who is also helming the Blade Runner sequel, and given it has my fave Amy Adams in it among other fine actors, I'm really looking forward to seeing this.

In theatres November 11.

Odd release date for a movie like that. Surprising it wasn't released as a summer blockbuster.

Most movies have high ratings at first then drop off the longer it's out, nothing new.

Don't know about that. 11/11 is a pretty momentus date. WW1 ended on 11/11 @ 11:11.

Did I miss the link to the trailer?

Thanks man. That's one of the longer trailers too, which I don't remember seeing. I first saw the trailers 2 whole months ago... and then my friend bragged he got tickets to see it. Bastard. It seems the trailer you linked came out a week after the initial trailers.

I'll embed that:

That's why I waited until 40 reviews. I don't remember a big blockbuster ever doing this well in the reviews. And yes it will drop (as it can't get any higher, at 100%), but I think we're probably going to get a final tally in the mid-90s.

she was great in enchanted

edit: dang it, i haven't been on a date since enchanted came out? jeez
I liked her in Sunshine Cleaning too, even if that movie was trying too hard to be "indie". Junebug was great too. Still have yet to see The Fighter and American Hustle.

I never realized that was her in Junebug--probably before she was a known quantity.

as for Amy Adams in American Hustle--she should have earned 2 (maybe 3) Academy Awards for that, considering the 2-3 roles that she played. :sneaky:
