This sucks. At least they gave it multiple tries despite the poor ratings, I have to give them credit for that. I hope that they can give it a proper ending.

:brokenheart: Arrested Development! We've been getting it from Netflix, and we're just starting Season 2 now. It's a great show. I hope they just move it over to cable instead of getting rid of it altogether.
 
Fox has always been the network to shoot from the hip when things are not going well (Firefly anyone?)
But A.D. did not fare well, IMHO, because it was a somewhat "Brittish" style of humor. Not to say it was not very funny, but many people had trouble getting it.
And the ones who did "get it" will be the most vocal in this thread. But what you need to understand is that your in the minority and the advertising $$$ follows the majority.
If Fox ever drops 24 I'll just remove their channel from my box 🙂
And yes, they have FX, which is basically a re-run channel with the exception of the very excellent show The Shield.

Exactly!! This show always had horrible ratings, but FOX kept hanging on to it because the press loved it.

The show was great but I had trouble finding it.

Fox moved it and well it was the one show that they did not run 8 billion ads for during the sporting events I watch 😉

One of the best written shows and remember folks Seinfeld was on the verge of being canceled until it's 4th season.

It's hard to find an audience if you're truly different and intelligent, especially in comedy. You can make a drama outside the "norm" and get away with it, with comedy though people want familiar and comfortable. To make AD appeal to the mainstream they would have had to strip away everything that made it great and turn it into just another family sitcom.

The problem with comedies on TV is that people don't really "watch" them. They tend to focus on dramas and watch comedy with only one eye while reading or playing on the computer or doing something else. To make a comedy work you need to focus on the big jokes delivered with a hammy over-the-top style and a heaping dose of a canned laughtrack. That's the only way people know it's funny and laugh. Shows like AD (and "Sports Night", "Police Squad" "Action" and other late lamented genre-busting shows) refused to follow the simple comedy recipe. They delivered the best laughs deadpan or barely on the fringe of the camera shot and anybody that wasn't paying close attention at the time just didn't get it, couldn't understand it. They were not told when to laugh, were not smart enough to get the jokes on their own and dismissed the show as unfunny. I would rather have had 2.5 seasons of top quality entertainment from AD the way it was rather than have them turn it into just another "Empty Nest" or "Friends" in an attempt to get ratings.

I would happily pay to download, but I'm not going to pay for cable or dish, and our FOX affiliate is unwatchable. And I'm not wasting my time watching advertisements.

I thought so too. As usual, it was FOX dropping the ball.
 
Oh well. AD was the best show on TV, and the only TV worth watching. But, it didn't have a laugh track, so all the stupid people "didn't get it" 'cause they weren't sure when (or whether) to laugh. It's funny, because the popular sitcoms like "Raymond" I find so un-funny and irritating that I literally have to shut off the TV if I'm in the room. Sometimes I wish I were dumb too so I could watch mindless idiocy on the tube all day and cackle like a baffoon....
 
I'm really sad. I forgot about AD for the second season and parts of the first season. I watched the third season so far and its so hilarious. The humour isn't as obvious as some of the more retarded down comedies. I'm going to rewatch the first and second season asap.
 
Fox has their heads up their asses. They cancel great shows like AD and Firefly but keep that stupid ass michael rapaport sh!t.
