I'm not sure about Arnold being the best. If so that doesn't bode well for the rest of the states.

Hmm, I wonder where Bush would rate if he was counted. Cutting taxes but increasing spending.

It gets to the point where you really need to hold onto that job in order to live because loan money isn't enough. Rental prices are going up, tuition's going up, what are you to do if you don't have rich parents to help you out? And at a public school no less...

Uh? Student loans? I graduated with $15,000 worth of them. My wife is looking at upwards of $90,000 worth. Anyone can afford to go to school, you'll just pay longer for it when you get out.

Don't get me wrong, anyone's better than Gray Davis, but education is really hurting here.

While I somewhat agree that tuition increases are getting out of hand, I haven't heard any horror stories about someone dropping out of school because it's been too expensive. I've worked for UC for over 5 years, and if anything the students here are getting richer. Seriously do you know anyone on campus that doesn't have a cell phone? They can afford it. Hell be happy it's only tuition that's gone up.

The employees, on the other hand, have it tough. We haven't seen a cost of living increase in 3 years and while job stability and benefits are somewhat better, you can still make more money elsewhere.

Things like the first example make me want to root for the Governator but the second example is infuriating. But, at least you get some good with him.

The second is more a calculated risk than just throwing money away ... hope it turns out for the better!

Given that embryonic stem cell research has not had much success yet adult stem cell research seem to be really taking off while relying mostly on private funding, yeah it's a risk. Especially when you consider the guy that was pushing for this along with Arnold had a sizeable stake in a biotech company that would reap the financial benefits from the bill.

CATO is a libertarian thinktank. There is a significant difference.

Not on economic policy.

Wow you really know nothing, but you have proved that not only with that statement but the others you make daily.

Schwarzenegger is very liberal on a LOT of issues. Heck look who he is married to.

But he is still Republican...

Some of us base our opinions of individuals based on their actions, not their political label. It does require more thinking, but I think it produces better results.

Boo frickin' hooo.

The UC system has tuition rates below the national avg for state schools. Hell third tier state schools in Texas have higher tutition than any of the UC schools. Education in Cali isnt hurting, its people dont want to pay a higher tution rate, which is still lower than almost all other states.

Ummm what the fvck do you think libertarians are? They are fiscally conservative, and socially liberal(except guns and welfare/govt entitlement programs). So they are republicans because they call for fiscal responsiblity?

Yeah cut spending where we are wasting all our money ... education.

Thanks asshole :disgust:

No shit. Pretty much sums up yet again that idiots voted for an idiot who has no freaking idea what the frick he's doing. And we all know idiots get re-elected.

we had to fire 7 teachers at my elem school next year bc student to teacher ratios were increased from 20-1 to 30-1. (lower student to teacher ratio is the singularly most effective way of increasing test scores and grades)

I'm a UCLA student and we pay much less for our educations then the rest of the country, stop crying. Where's that Johnson's Baby Shampoo No More Tears logo I saw the other day?

Yes, that's what the teacher unions would like you to believe (smaller classes = more teachers = more union members = more union money = more union power). Funny how there's been over three decades of reducing class sizes yet the quality of education has gone downhill....

Yep, it was cheaper for me to be an out-of-state student at the University of Alabama than it was for me to pay in-state tuition in Texas.

You really think the republican fiscal policy of the last 5 years is close enough to CATO's advocated fiscal policy that there isnt a significant difference?

Eh, tuition goes up, life goes on!

I'd glady vote for the Governator again! Its nice having someone that instills confidence and gets things done.
