You appear to be a prime example of the lowered standards the recruiters are using these days.

BTW, how many countries were we invading and occupying under Clinton?

That seems an uncalled for "low blow" remark.

end of summer is a big sign up time, most highschoolseniors realize they dont have good jobs, missed the college boat, or get to college and realize they need some more money....

like i said, you need to take a number to get into the infantry these days, and thats something i dont eblive has happend in decades..... it shows they are getting the right people for the most part...

I know enough of your writing to make the assumption your education is a bit sub-par. Either that or you're just about the most careless typist on earth.

Possible. I'm sure the recruiters are under increasing pressure to get more people signed up. My daughter's boyfriend signed up for the National Guard Reserves a month or so ago. He was promised he would never have to go overseas.

Hmmm...

You needn't worry about it. The Army is worrying enough for both of you.

pffft improving, try stagnant

LOL, I saw that on TV last night. I guess the low recuritment numbers have nothing to do with people not wanting to be shot at. Go figure.

How about this. I only want to be in the military when there isn't a madman in the White House inventing reasons to go to war.

I think most people join the military because

a. Money
b. Their parents served and they were pressured to join

I doubt you'll find many people joining to defend the country.

And what exactly were we defending the country from when we attacked Iraq?

Interesting that the Navy and Air Force are easily meeting recruitment, yet the Marines and Army aren't. Obviously, they're going to have to sweeten the deal to get more into those two. I'll go Army Reserve, if they change their mind and let me in as an officer 😉

Military benefits are in general pretty good but their pay is so low that some military families have to go on food stamps.

My buddy Mike was a sergeant in the 101st Airborne. He got a medical discharge because he was undeployable (sleep apnia) and easily found a job in the private sector making double his previous salary. Pretty insane that we pay people twice as much to fix air conditioners as we do to protect our nation.

So all in all it's not surprising that it's becoming more difficult to find people to recruit as the economy improves. Hell, Wal-Mart pays more than the Army does! 😉

Army pay scales, not bad
