Harpers temporarily overcame their no-freebies policy and opened up this article, The Great Republican Land Heist, with a bit of history on cattle ranchers, Nevada, BLM and Republican politicians. It's interesting to see the conservative legislative group ALEC is involved in this (no surprise there either). These ranchers are pissed that they can't get away with the shit they have been in the past but their Republican buddies are working hard to try and correct that.

These ranchers get all kinds of government assistance via public lands but that isn't enough, now they want the welfare office so they can run it themselves.

Good article, I think Jhhnn needs to read it to see ignoring these idiots isn't going to make them go away. Obama wussed out last year and he is wussing out now.

The tricky thing is to work out a solution whereby no one gets killed.

Look at the big picture. We live in a country chuck full of conservative brain defectives and they are acting out. You seem to want to deal harshly with them and ignore the fact that our culture churns them out like a cookie cutting machine. You are a part of that culture so you are complicit in their generation. Should you be dealt harshly with? Perhaps the real answer is to have the Russians nuke our culture, but then again, they seem to have their own issues that need harsh remedy.

In short, I support a gentle attempt to resolve this issue. I already carry all the guilt I need.

I did read it. I've also seen a lot of it in my life, both the territory & the people.

They're not the driving force behind the attempted land grab at all. They would ultimately be victims to it because they can't compete at auction with the big boys. No more cheap govt subsidized grazing permits. Without those, they can't make a living & their land value plummets. They're already competing directly in the marketplace with ranching conglomerates who've been trying to squeeze them out for over 100 years. Their way of life is heavily subsidized, past compromises on their part relatively few. America has gone to great lengths to preserve their way of life.

Most of them really get that but chafe at the sometimes ham-handed way the BLM does things. Enormous swaths of the West have been & still are heavily overgrazed. As the BLM & the Forest Service attempt to reverse that some small ranchers will be forced out because they're really part of the problem. They don't have enough acreage (including govt leases) to run enough cows in a sustainable way to make a living. The consequences of doing it in an unsustainable way will only become more grave over generational time frames because climate only provides for very slow recovery.

He's going to get a bunch of people killed at some point. There's no way he's going to stop pushing and his "cause" is a magnet for a load of really effed up loons.

I can see why the authorities are treading gently and it reflects well on them but they are going to have to step more firmly at some point.

I agree he is going to get people killed.

you have some rich poeple trying to use politics to get free land. So many people are Anti-government now. so they buy into this shit.

Likely so. When they're all huddled in a worked up itchy trigger finger frenzy isn't the time to do it. Let 'em go home after you know all about them, issue warrants, pick 'em up on their way to the grocery store 6 months from now.

Participants at the Bundy ranch have some veneer of plausibility- they were invited onto private property. Nobody invited them to take over the Malheur visitor center.

Kind of wish we could revoke their citizenship. They have said they do not recognize the authority of the federal government. Fine, they then become illegal immigrants. Deport their asses to any country that will take them.

I find that concept a bit amusing myself.

And true.

Probably the same reason you made 71 posts so far in the thread where the vast, vast majority of your posts were simple derision of other posters and the "movement".

I must have missed where he said he himself wasn't concerned. Do you even know what hypocrisy is? Hint: pointing out someone's hypocrisy doesn't make them a hypocrite.

Probably because he lives there, and knows about it more than stat freaks posting in general.

Coolness not found.

I'm sure the nearby reservation would be happy to donate some blankets...

too soon?

I see that the English language isn't your strong suit. Since ivwshane interpreted the sentence properly for you I won't waste my time doing so. I am glad that you do know how to count though.

Good job! I'd give you a gold star but I'm fresh outta them.

I must have missed where I said that he said he himself wasn't concerned. I was noting this:

If this thread is so worthless then why are you bothering to comment?

In the "other" thread, he actually used the term "pathetic" in a thread he participated in for 3 more months.

Pathetic? This fucking thread and it's childish supporters are the definition of pathetic...lol!

He asked why cubby was posting in a thread he felt was worthless. I figured showing DrDoug's own equivalent activities would at least show him that there may be a valid reason for doing so. At least, a valid reason for DrDoug ;)

I agree with you, he should know a lot about this topic, and I'm actually interested in his contributions to this thread.

Ok.

Just getting to this thread now, but instead of reading 642 posts have any super tolerant left leaning folk called for a merciless assault on these guys yet, which would undoubtedly result in multiple loss of life?

I don't actually believe so, though I could have missed a post or two! Or at least, not any posts from known left-leaning posters that I would genuinely consider *serious* in their wording. That being said, the expected "if they were black it'd be different" has been brought up. So some posters do believe that if they were black, they would have been shot up by now (or it would be the conclusion to this whole situation in the future).

Worth reading the thread though.

Why did you bother posting something that ignorant either way at this point ?

NM, all the late to the game twits have shown up.

Ok.

I see you are having a problem understanding the difference between apples and oranges. The thread you quote me from is about the GG 'movement', a pathetic grouping of man-children whining about girls being mean to them. Oh, and ethics in something-something. This thread is about something a little bit more important.

I won't bother wasting my time any further in explaining how pathetic it is that you are too stupid or blind to see the difference.

I completely agree. The problem is, these particular ranchers are too stupid to know how insanely good they have it. But none of that changes the fact that ignoring their actions will lead to them continuing their actions in the future.

I know that you think the Feds will round them up later, but I think you are delusional.

You can spend as much or little time as you want explaining why you feel that they are too different to be compared. You are trying to justify that its ok that you continued to post in a thread for 3 months after calling it pathetic because the topic was not as important to you. This topic is considered more important to you so therefore you have to question why someone would post in a topic that is considered worthless to them..

Ok. :D
