Or they could be stubborn underfunded people that can't take suggestions.

Well, at the point where the authorities issue an ultimatum the militia still has choices. Freeze/starve, surrender, or go out in a blaze of glory. I'm sure they'll offer that the children, if any, should be brought out.

It's open country & the occupiers undoubtedly have rifles in hunting calibers so the authorities would do well to up-gun to 7.62 Nato for longer range before making any demands.

A bit of history on the Hammonds...

This quote from Hammond's wife says it all about how the Hammond family views the wildlife preserve:

Susie Hammond, Dwight's wife, said the cattle trail is a "historic right of way" that has been in use since 1871. "We have never had a permit," she said. "We have a right to use it."
What was the issue? The wildlife agency was letting the Hammonds cross the preserve with his cattle but they requested a 24 hour notice before doing so. Hammond never asked, I guess that was too much federal interference for him so he just did it whenever he wanted to:

"The refuge has been trying to work with Hammond for many years," said agency spokeswoman Susan Saul. A thick file at refuge headquarters reveals just how patient refuge managers have been. Hammond allegedly made death threats against previous managers in 1986 and 1988 and against Cameron, the current manager, in 1991 and again this year. Saul said Hammond has never given the required 24 hours' notice before moving his cows across the refuge and that he allowed the cows to linger for as long as three days, trespassing along streams and trampling young willows that refuge workers had planted to repair damage wrought by years of overgrazing.
What a steward of the land! Hammond is exactly why the government needed to regulate, maintain and control our public lands. Now his Posse boys are there and all they want is 300 square miles of federal land to be turned over to a few local ranchers, including the Hammond family (and of course their release from prison too).

And this is why i think they are nothing more then terrorist. they are trying to get the land and goods fore free.

They know right now public sentiment is anti government. they know far to many will back them just to spite the government.

they are nothing more then thieves. and willing to use terrorist actions to get it.

fuck them.

Not really. The authorities are likely planning ahead with the barricades for the day that the insurgency will be arrested & arraigned.

The rest? The authorities may just be baiting the trap. Draw 'em in & then freeze/starve 'em into surrender. Access & power can be cut at will. Winter is brutal & Spring is a long ways off in Burns.

Like they did with Pa Bundy? Oh wait, he's still at home, illegally grazing his cattle on public land and not paying the million plus $ in fines and fees.

Yes, I'm sure that the feds have a cunning plan.

This is different. The Bundy ranch was initially just a matter of money, still is. In that, the govt will eventually own the ranch because of Bundy's stupidity. It's the only way his estate can begin to cover the judgments against him. Uncle Sam can afford to wait.

Taking over a federal facility is a whole different kettle of fish. Sooner rather than later the govt will be forced to act. They'll do everything possible to get the fools to leave first, of course, but that seems unlikely. I doubt we'll go past Feb 1 before power & access to the facility are cut & winter forces the Militia's hand.

All bets are off should the militia choose to start shooting either at the refuge or in Burns.

This is interesting:

Burns community meeting: Thanks, militia. Go home.

The locals that Bundy appointed to the Safety Committee held a meeting last night and the conclusion is that it's time for the militia to go home. I don't think that this is the outcome that Bundy was looking for...lol!

... but the Harney County Committee of Safety as a whole delivered a note to group leader Ammon Bundy: Leave. “We have to thank him for that, but we think now we’ve got it to the point where now it’s probably time for him to go home,” Smith said.
It'll be interesting to see if Bundy complies with their wishes or decides he knows what's best for the people of Harney County.

There's a simple solution to this.

The federal gub'mint asks for volunteers to go and arrest the criminals, totally unarmed. The federal government will find quite a few volunteers for this, no problem.

Afterwards, the federal gub'mint alerts the entire media, and the criminals inside the federal office that they are sending in unarmed federal officers to arrest the criminals.

The media is recording live. The volunteers have cameras on to record all of it.

Now its up to the criminals to decide whether they are "protesters" and allow themselves to be arrested as martyrs to the Constitution, or to become terrorists and murder the unarmed federal officers.

If power & access are cut then cold & hunger will beat them into a state of reasonableness long before spring. Three hots & a cot will look great to guys who haven't eaten in a couple of weeks. Absolutely fabulous, I'm sure.

It supposedly takes 45 days or more to starve to death but the cold would accelerate that I'm sure.

Why do you bother posting things in a thread like this to make yourself look like a raving lunatic so often ?

A third "not a militia" group arrived at the wildlife refuge today and later in the day Ammon announced that the latest group was leaving. Reports are that about two dozen men left but reporters also state that it appears that a few armed members of that group remained behind. Ammon was worried about the perception of it with the locals and decided a third group was too much but if a few remained behind then that may be just a cover story by the group (supply run and bring in a few reinforcements). It looks like the Bundy Boys are settling in for the long haul. They have renamed the visitors center, claimed the federal land and vehicles as their own and so on. They now have plans to go take down a fence that a rancher wants removed so he can have access to federal lands.

Word is that the FBI talked to some of the latest group at the local airport as they were leaving the area but there were no details that I have found anywhere.

Maybe he's exploring a likely hole in the sieve of possibilities, while his logic for deducing how it unfolds has a slight flaw.

I don't think I've posted once on this thread, but it's suddenly 28 pages long.

You might also look at this as a cornpone example of a hold-out die-hard world-view, based on a puerile understanding (if any) of the Constitution and the historical basis for federal land holdings in states.

Excluding the original 13 exceptions, most of the states were federal territories before statehood. Whatever exchanges took place in passing lands between state and federal oversight, the old conservative principle applies: "There's no such thing as a free lunch."

In this and a pile of other examples, you have individuals short-changing the public of the compensation for reasonably land-use fees -- fees used to defray the cost of maintenance and management.

There's also another side to this. One would have to go back to the 18th century to see what presidents and the executive branch did regarding Shay's Rebellion, the Whiskey Rebellion and Fries' Rebellion.

These gun-toting hayseeds are being treated with kid gloves. Sooner or later, the work that goes on in the occupied building will need to proceed, the trespassers must be evicted, and charges filed.

And I could also take a line from the '90s film "Tombstone," and tell the looney-bird quixotic cuckoos of the bird-sanctuary: "Go ahead! Skin that smoke-wagon and go to work!"

As much as to say "Just try it. . . . "

Reports are that the Bundy Boys have been having a bonfire today. The fuel? BLM files. The exiting "not militia" group stopped by and visited the sheriff to talk about the "Articles for Resolution" that had dropped off earlier. Nothing to report from that other than the sheriff saying that he wants to get the area back to normal asap.

Destroying government records? Probably the Hammond records of his interactions with the refuge personnel (and those of other ranchers in the area).

ETA: One of the people who have been detailing this 'story' has a picture up that is supposed to show where Bundy (Ol' Man Bundy in Nevada) got the supplies he used to feed the men that arrived to protect him (in 2014 standoff).

He fed them with FEMA food...lol!

Also, word is that the latest militia group to arrive and leave is not happy with Bundy taking over the preserve. It seems that poor Ammon is getting heat from the locals and his fellow militiamen...lol!

Nuts...

This is an incredibly short-sighted prediction. There HAS to be at least one really fat guy in a group of crazy armchair commandos, they'll eat that guy by day 15.

In the latest list of good they say that they need, gaming supplies were on the list.

Now is that hardware, software, Doritos, Cheetos, Twinkies or what exactly?

Someone was nice enough to drop this as a gift to the internets:
