There aren't enough of those loons for it to be more than an annoyance. If they start shooting, there will be even fewer.

I like the way that the govt is giving it a chance to play out into a faceplant all on its own. If it doesn't, the govt can always limit access & change the rules to surrender or starve.

There's a lot of winter left, plenty of time to let it unfold.

I think you far, far underestimate the support that exists for these loons, and a good deal of it is probably in law enforcement. Otherwise something, anything, would have come of this:

As it is now a lot of those groups who initially distanced themselves I'm sure with the expectation this incident would surely bring the hammer down are starting to have second thoughts:

Yah, a few loons don't equal large body counts in the US and mass destruction, no connection at all. Lets all pretend that 911, Oklahoma City, etc... never happened.... Followers of this particular cult have only murdered two innocent cops in Vegas thus far. Lets wait until they kill 20 or so people, then we can get worried.

Why did McVeigh bomb Oklahoma city? Because of Waco. We don't need to give them any more martyrs.

The Las Vegas shooters were too radical for the Militia at the Bundy ranch-

I'm sure one of the militia's greatest fears is that they take in some damned fool who'll get them all killed.

I suspect that's why they're simply watching for now. No need to create a situation which propels more nutcases to greater acts of violence.

However, when and if it dies down, they should go after some of these clowns individually and charge them. It was a mistake to not charge anyone from the Bundy standoff, especially when some were pointing weapons at federal law enforcement.

I just watched a congressman from Alabama go on TV and say that the American people should be armed to preserve our demacracy and prevent dictatorships from happening. When asked about the militia in Oregon and if he felt they were doing just that he said no they were not.

Am I the only one who sees a contradiction?

This same congressman also said he doesn't support citizens who are armed being allowed into the capital.

Yeah, I saw that. The fool has no problem leaving us to suffer the other fools who feel the need to wear their manly strap-on but wants them banned from the public place where he works...lol! I also read that people who carry in Texas now need to show their license if they want to enter a store where liquor is sold. Even WalMarts that sell booze are having to ask gun owners to produce their license.

It seems to be making the gun owners grumpy but it's a state liquor control ordinance that was already in place...lol!

Not doing anything encourages this behavior in the future.

cough cough, black panthers, election office, cough cough.

Yes. Holding open the door of an polling location is a terrorist act.

If you're a black man.

If you're white, point guns at federal officials, or break and enter federal property, you're a martyr for the Constitution!

Those black panthers felt the need to protect those placing during the election because they feared people would try and stop black people from voting. There was nothing wrong with doing this. It just made for a photo that racists love to hold up as some kind of proof that black panthers are intimidating voters. But never mind state republican officials not ordering enough machine for black communities so they have to wait for hours to vote. No issue there.

Isn't it fun that the same people who told us that we need to comply with the law or die, and to never ask for free stuff from the government, are now supporting a group of armed protesters who are demanding free land from the government? And without a hint of hypocrisy..

They're the same b̶i̶g̶o̶t̶s̶ conservatives who will defend the police department executing a black kid for something legal - open carrying a pellet gun - while defending white morons who are trespassing and costing TAX PAYER DOLLARS(!) while armed and threatening to kill anyone who comes to enforce, uh, the law.

They don't give a shit about fair, these nuts are part of the Sovereign Citizen crackpots. They specialize in trying to steal the property of others because they are special sovereign snowflakes who only answer to the sheriff, whom they will hang at high noon in the busiest intersection in the county if enough of them decide that the sheriff isn't doing his duty. They think they are a state unto themselves. Cliven Bundy has said that he is not a citizen of America, but rather a citizen of the state of Nevada so I'm pretty damned sure that his sons feel exactly the same way as Pop.

They exist in a whole different reality than the rest of us. If you take the logical extension of their control of the county and the sheriff by threat of death, that's a pretty sick world that they want to create for the rest of us. Why?

Because then they will be the bastards running the show.

Oregon Live has an article up with a bit more history on the Hammonds (the father & son who returned to prison). A quote:

Years before the arson fires that sent two Oregon ranchers to federal prison — sparking an armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge — federal officials reported several death threats from the men.
Those accusations, which reportedly stretch back to the 1980s, first emerged in August 1994.
That's when Dwight Hammond Jr., now 73, and his son, Steven, now 46, wound up arrested by U.S. Fish and Wildlife officers after trying to stop federal workers inside Malheur from fencing off a canal they'd been using to water their cows.
That's right, they were angry because federal wildlife officials were fencing off a canal on the refuge that the Hammonds were using to water their cattle. Death threats because they couldn't keep doing whatever they wanted to land they had no right to be using.

Seriously. What asses.

"Let's just knock this crap off and go back to being friends and neighbors," said lifelong resident Jesse Svejcar. He said he disagreed with the protesters, but added: "I will thank them, if nothing else, they gave a lot of good people in this county a voice."

...

"When I wake up tomorrow, I want to have pleasant thoughts about you -- that you did the right thing, that you packed your bags and you went home," Ward said of the anti-government protesters.
Boy that's some strong community outrage. These guys will be gone any day now.

Local tribe is unhappy.

Oregon Public Broadcasting's Amanda Peacher tells our Newscast unit that Burns Paiute tribal leaders denounced the militants and demanded that they leave. "The 190,000-acre wildlife refuge is within Paiute ancestral lands," Amanda says.

Tribal Chairperson Charlotte Rodrique says that she is "offended by occupiers' statements about returning the land to its rightful owners," Amanda reports.

"You know, who are the rightful owners?" says Rodrique. "It just really rubs me the wrong way that we have a bunch of misinformed people in here — they're not the original owners."

Kind of wish we could revoke their citizenship. They have said they do not recognize the authority of the federal government. Fine, they then become illegal immigrants. Deport their asses to any country that will take them.

also revoke/claim refund + interest on Ammon Bundy's $500k Federal small business loan.

Have they turned off water and power to the facility, yet? They aren't citizens, supposedly not paying taxes, so they should be treated the way they demand of other illegal immigrants.

Also revoke Cliven's medicare and all the other government subsidies granted to his fucking cow farm.
