Batman: Arkham Knight – PC Version Lacks Modern Graphical Effects (AO, Bokeh DOF & Rain Textures)

http://www.dsogaming.com/news/batma...graphical-effects-ao-bokeh-dof-rain-textures/

According to reports and various comparisons, the PC version lacks ambient occlusion, bokeh DOF (Editor In Chief: This is debatable. Bokeh is used in some occasions on the PC, however it is underused compared to the console build) and rain textures/shaders. Moreover, some textures seem to be of a lower quality from those found on the PS4 version, suggesting that there is seriously something really weird going on with the build that is currently available on Steam. In the first comparison, PC is on the left whereas Xbox One/PS4 is on the right.

If that is true... ouch.
I would say everyone should do a steam refund then.

Any Radeon owners playing this grab the updated drivers from AMD? If so, did it help?

I appear to be one of the lucky ones, as my system runs the game without issue (so far). I'm on a OC'd 2700k/290 with 8gb ram. All normal to high settings in game, running max fps 300. Using 15.6 catalyst driver.

About 2 hours of game time in, enjoying it so far. I'm liking the new additions to the fighting quite a bit. The batmobile is awesome. Although, it takes a little getting used to controlling it, switching in and out of tank/pursuit mode.

Lol, and NeoGAF banned the person for calling him out.

The problem certainly seems to be getting out of control. Every major publisher except Nintendo released a broken game last year. Some of which still aren't fixed. I hear multiplayer is still buggy in the Master Chief Collection for example. The trend seems to be continuing well into 2015.

When you're dropping $60 or more on a product, there's a reasonable expectation that it should work as advertised. Especially coming from large companies with multi-million dollar budgets. Of course gamers have to vote with their wallets. Unfortunately, it's proven difficult to drill that into their thick skulls. They swear off pre-ordering but then fall into the hype trap and get screwed, repeatedly. Fool me once...

Well, played for a bit and only time I saw any slowdown was during a cutscene with Poison Ivy. This was also the scene when her and Batman were walking into a room, her boobs started vibrating, LOL. Only glitch I've seen and I wasn't too worried about it.

Also, I made changes based on this Steam post. Hope it helps some folks:

That did help, and I've put in 98 minutes into the game, still with major jitters and pauses in the game play. I'm very temped to put in for a refund.

There's no excuse for a major AAA title to be released in this shape. Anyone else looking to ask for a refund?

Wow. All of that work just to make it less broken. I could almost forgive the studio if that guide at least brought it up to spec, pass off the majority of problems on poor config settings that slipped into the release build. But from what I'm reading all of that is just patchwork over some of the smaller holes. That's just inexcusable.

Gamers are slowly but surely waking up to it. Hell it's not until last year that it became a major problem. Sure the occasional title like Rome Total War II, SimCity and Aliens: Colonial Marines were horrendous on launch, but they were pretty isolated. Total War serves a pretty niche audience and SimCity and Aliens were reboots. Lots of gamers heard about them, but only a minority were actually affected. Last year we had the Master Chief Collection, Assassins Creed Unity, Farcry 4, Battlefield 4, even CoD: Advanced Warfare. Those are some of the most popular franchisees in history that affected millions of players. Crap like that is when you see an impact. That's also why pre-order bonuses have increased as time goes on. Extra skins and flashy weapons are no longer enough.

While I realize that many haven't pre-ordered, they got the game bundled with a hardware purchase...

The game doesn't have issues, bugs or glitches. Those are your preorder bonuses. Pre order more games for more bonuses like that. The earlier and more expensive the better. Gotta grab that special limited outfit included for the protagonist with the most expensive premium edition before the digital downloads run out and servers run out of copies for you to buy...

The publishers know that it's harder to pull a fast one on the PC platform users so they gave up, this is all for the mass market mouth breathers and PC is a distant afterthought.

They actually pulled the game from Steams front page, not anywhere to be seen unless you search for it.

4,395 neg reviews, I've been saying this was coming for a log time. As consumers but not only that also as a society we have been lowering acceptable standards for years. Each year the bottoms drops a little lower and we say, well its at 95% at least its not 90%. and then its oh its at 90% that's not so bad.

Eventually we get used to garbage and we don't remember what its like to have standards. We feed stupidity and greed because we've been taught over dozens of generations that's what we do. We smile and nod and drink the kool aid because if you dont then you're stirring up the crowd and no one wants that. You will be cast upon if you stand out or act different or question those people that are above you. After all they are above you for a reason. It certainly can't be because their father was and his father before him, noooo. It must be because he's smarter, or better, or has things figured out so dont question it.

Smile and nod, pay the money, buy the food that give you diabetes, buy the cheap gas that burns up your engine, plunk down money for early access games. No no please don't bring up the fact that they used to pay you for early access calling you beta testers pish posh. Yeesss yesss pre order games and buy DLC before its announced. Its good for you. After all we are only multi million dollar companies, how else can we afford to build your shitty little games you fucking serfs.

Fuck you WB and Fuck you Rocksteady for getting into bed with a shithole company. Get some fucking integrity.

I would say fuck you to whateverthefuckname that shitty port company is but you don't go and buy dirty smack from the sketchy guy who has a reputation for cutting his shit with poison and then get mad at the guy. You get what you expect, shit product for cheap. They just did what they do they make half assed ports and push em out fast.

Well I bought mine from Green Man Gaming so no refund opportunity...

Should I not play right now and see if they patch it more or is it basically, "it is what it is...?"

They patched the other ones a few times so you shouldn't be left out to dry.

I suggest everyone use Steam refund to get your money back and dont waste your time making tweaks.

Btw to the above poster, DX11 to this day is still broken in AC on AMD hardware, you cant in any way diable Phsyx on top of that which kills performance in that mode.

Get a new card and dedicate your 570 as a physx card for this game.

They released an official post on the WB message boards and specifically pointed out physx and harddrive streaming performance as major issues.

Do I have to get an NVIDIA card to use the 570 as physx? I've almost been talked into a R290 or R290x...?

Well FWIW I ran the benchmark tool today. Results below - this is on a gtx980TI with a 3770k and 16GB ram. Game streaming off a ssd.

Min FPS - 45
Max FPS - 61
Avg FPS - 57

This is at 1400p with all options at their highest level and everything else ON except vsync. I used adaptive vsync through the geforce control center.

Benchmark performance seems consistent with my in game performance, so I think it is accurate.

Also TBH I think this is one of the nicest looking games I have ever seen. Atmosphere is awesome and the use of the batmobile is just great. I don't particularly care for some aspects of the updated control scheme. And I particularly dislike how easy it is to mistakenly call the batmobile with no way to cancel it.

There's certainly no pride in craftsmanship anymore.

The one saving grace is Steam's new, no questions asked refund policy. Wasn't too long ago when you weren't allowed to return opened / used software. So if you bought something that was broken, you were stuck with it.

In the long run, it's going to be the best thing that ever happened to the industry. Not only does it put power back into the hands of consumers, it will go a long way towards taking out the trash. Now that money's on the line, maybe these big publishers will think twice before rushing incomplete games to market. Maybe.

GMG announced this morning that if you are still not able to play after the first patch they will refund your money. Problem is no word on ETA of first patch.

It's there, I can find it, but it has a boatload of negative feedback.

I nearly considered getting it at one point over a month ago.

Battlefield: Hardline for PC is evidence that PC gamers aren't putting up with garbage sh* anymore.

Wow.. up until now 16gb of RAM has handled all my games with no page file. This game sucked that 16gb down in about 30 minutes of play.

I noticed yesterday while playing that my 8gb page file was being maxed out + some. However it didnt have any negative impact on the games performance, so I didnt worry too much about it.
