Is it a bug I am unaware of?

Not to mention how annoying it was to turn vsync off. Turn off through menu, nope.. still on. So wtf put that setting in the game? Had to turn it off vsync through txt file Bmengine.ini. Played once and worked. Next time I played, vsync turned back on by itself. Maybe I should've just avoided this game like I did. It is starting to annoy the shit out of me.. especially when all you want to do is game on a nice Sunday afternoon and not google bugs, glitches and walkthroughs. Sorry for the rant but any help would be appreciated.

Looking at the vid, you should just be able to aim the batclaw up at the box on the very right of your screenshot, then pull it down.

Can you not just force vsync off in nvidia control panel?

Oh I see, watched it again. Yea looks like a box is missing. I dunno sorry, been ages since I played.

Nope the Nvidia control panel is set to vsync off, globally and program specific and it doesnt do anything. Unbelievable, am I really that unlucky and only one getting this bug with the crate not appearing. Couldn't find anything googling. Guess nobody has seen this before. Fuck it.. dont know why I am still trying to play this shit game.

I believe AA has UE3's framerate smoothing turned on...not really the games fault, it's the engine's design.

As for the crate...is the game legit and up to date?

I think your two problems are linked. V-sync isn't forced in this game; it has a 62FPS cap by default. You removed the cap, but the changes made to UE3 for the Arkham games cause them to act strangely when running at higher than intended frame rates. Most likely, that ended up screwing up how the box was spawned, since frame rate actually has an effect on loading times and you may have forced the map to load too quickly for the box to get there properly. I strongly recommend putting the cap back on, even if you don't like it. Sorry, but that's just how it is.

... Well, unless you actually are talking about V-sync, in which case you change the settings before the game starts. If the game auto-starts as soon as you click on it instead of giving you the option to change PC settings, either your game is bugged or you have a cracked version (in which case it would be your fault and yours alone).

Thanks for the help and replies guys. Yep, game was purchased legit through steam sale. Unfortunately still stuck here, reinstalled and enabled vsync etc. same thing. What an odd problem which stop my game in its tracks, cant progress. Anyway, long shot but contacted Steam to see what they can do.

I disagree. I feel Arkham Asylum is a great game. Matter of fact I just turned it on a few weeks ago and marveled at it's polish. And the character models are still some of the best and most detailed I've ever seen. It looks like @$$ on whatever settings you are running it on though.

One other thing, when I installed B:AA the other day, it seemingly force-installed an older version of PhysX even though I had a newer version already installed with a recent nvidia driver. I thought it was a bad idea so I pre-empted any potential trouble. Uninstall both versions of PhysX then install a recent nvidia driver to reinstate it.

Admittedly B:AA refused to run the first few times I attempted this, claiming that PhysX wasn't installed, but I wonder if bizarre things might happen in game if PhysX is in a non-ideal state.

PS - I think this is the third time I've played this game and on no occasion have I had the problem the OP described (or anything like it). On all occasions I installed it from DVD.

PPS - there is an update for B:AA - when you start the game it should say at the bottom of the screen 'V1.1'. I would have thought with a Steam game you ought to automatically have the latest version, but it might be worth checking.

I had a directx problem, cant remember the error. Anyway, installed another game from steam and it fixed the directx problem. I also have V1.1. Looks like this game is riddled with bugs and grappling problems etc, from what I can tell.

I am just baffled that googling doesn't even mention this problem anywhere. You would think someone would have ran into or complained about this problem because there is no way to progress forward in the game. The OCD part of me wont give up, pissing me off and I am determine to get it working. Dont even want to play the stupid game anymore, wasting my time and giving me headaches... really is a POS.

I had zero problems playing it when it launched nor when I played it again last year. *shrug*

Sadly, when googling provides absolutely nothing to return, that generally means pretty safely that the problem lies with your end.
It still sucks, but it doesn't make the game a 'POS'.

I completed it last night, which is now the third time I've completed it. Apart from the most minor aesthetic issues (e.g. a tiny portion of a moving texture can be seen to pass through a wall, that many (most?) games have), I can't say I've noticed anything functionally wrong with the game.

My only criticism of this game is that it's too damn short; I completed the main campaign in what, 6 hours? Sure, hunting down all the secrets may take another 3, but I'm used to games that take about 20 hours to complete (which isn't all that long really either).

So what do you suggest? What is wrong on my end? Its a legit steam GOTY version, running with the specs below.

It is to me when you need to install directx from another game to get it working. Or run through hoops to disable vsync, then this crate problem etc. All within three days of playing. Okay maybe POS is not the best description but it wasted my time and gave me a week of headaches troubleshooting. Honestly if I cant find anything on AT/forums/google then I guess its time to give up. Its not like Steam customer support is ever of any help.

Wow, that is pretty short. Yeah, I was expecting at least 20 hours (which is short to me). The story is OK, I like that type of combat/melee system similar to Sleeping Dogs. Most recently I played Mad Max and thought it was pretty good. So decided to start from the beginning with AA. Maybe I will just watch some of it on Youtube and start Arkham City. Then again I just bought Witcher 3, Until Dawn and Fallout 4.. decisions decisions :)

Come to think of it, I think I had some kind of issue with the scarecrow, but, I don't recall what I finally ended up doing to continue on.
I also recall talk about something to do with the scarecrow and having a pirate copy of the game, but, as you, I got this game on steam.
You are using the grapple right?

Woo finally! FWIW in case anyone else runs into this, obviously a bug. I decided to try one more time, dont know what fixed it but these are the exact steps I took. Uninstalled the game (delete local files on Steam), deleted all save games in C:\Users\username\Documents\Square Enix\Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY\SaveData. Exit Steam, ran CCleaner and fix registry. Restart Steam and reinstall. Left Vsync on. Ran through the game quick fast to get up to Scarecrow again and the crate appeared!

How would you guys rate the games in the series, best to worst - Asylum, City, Origin and Knight?

I haven't played Arkham Knight yet (came with my GPU, but has been such a mess thus far that I haven't bothered). The others I would rate City>Asylum>Origins.

Origins just bored me after a while. Yeah, it's the same cool formula, but I lost the reasons to care and younger Batman was too much of a hothead for me to relate to.

You guys realize that dude is a satirist (troll) , correct?

You might dislike him for many reasons, but those aren't his actual opinions on the matter, and I have to chuckle at the folks on both sides of the divide who think they are.
