I am technically an Agnostic (I can't prove there is not a god) but usually call myself an Atheist because those who call themselves Agnostics tend to be wishy-washy (or also tend to be those who say they don't belive in religion but believe in a "higher power").
Someone who claims that there is no god, without proof, is being just as illogical as someone who claims that there is a god, without proof.
Edit:I must also qualify that even though I grant the possibility that a god or higher power could exist, that possibility seems to me to be extremely unlikely. In the unlikely event that one does exist, I would also say that it is unlikely that it would resemble the god of any religion.

you know i don't really think so, in my opinion. if you are part of a religion, then you believe that the higher power is there and you must also believe that the proof of this higher power is there.
otherwise, then i don't think you can do that.

I don't know how you could. I know some Jews that have tried to claim that they were Jewish (in the religious sense, not the cultural one) and atheistic at the same time. I told them they were full of sh!t.

Just because you believe something doesn't exist doesn't mean you can prove it doesn't exist.
Do you think a really strongly believing Christian who doesn't believe you can prove God exists is a weakly believing Christian? Belief in God is based on faith, you cannot show God, you cannot prove if he is there, but you can still have a strong belief in him.
Same as you can have a strong belief that God does not exist, but you are not able to prove God does not exist, unless you know something....?

A true Atheist denies the existence of a god. An Agnostic beleives that it is impossible to know if one exists or not. This is the belief that Lonyo expressed.

I am an athiest, meaning that I do not believe that any form of God exists. I recognize the possibility is there that God (or gods, or whatever) exist in some form, but I see no point whatsoever in unfounded belief. I believe the Bible and all other religious texts are a huge load of dung.
However, given all that.. I can certainly say I'm Catholic (or Buddhist, or Druid, or whatever). It's called LYING, and lying has a purpose sometimes.

I don't believe in the bible and all that stuff about the earth being created in 7 days stuff. I don't believe in Jesus or God in general... I do think that maybe there is some higher power out there in the universe, has better understanding that we do, but obviously i have no proof. does that make me agnostic or Atheist?

I don't see how it's possible to have a belief that something doesn't exist. It either exists or it doesn't. In this case, without evidence, it doesn't. I don't believe I fall into either category, unless you want to get rid of the term "belief" in atheism. Anyone have the same mindset?
