This pisses me off as well. Why can't COD 4 or Halo 3 have a standard server list? When I first played Quake online about 10 years ago, this was one thing that really blew me away. I really liked how I could get a good overview of who's playing and join whatever server is available.

I've lost most interest in console games because I don't like the controls. Using a controller greatly improves the playability of 2D games like Contra or Streets of Rage, but it feels frustrating when I'm trying to play a 3D game like Portal.

Microsoft brought the Xbox controller to the PC and that works great so far. I don't know why they won't bring the keyboard and mouse to the Xbox.

There was a keyboard and a mouse (and a microphone) for the Dreamcast, and it worked well, I got them for the web-browser mostly, but I played Quake 3 with the mouse + keyboard combo and it was much more precise, obviously. I also wonder why there's no official keyboard and mouse for at least the 360 or the PS3, I would understand why it wouldn't be on the Wii, or on any Nintendo consoles, but for more "action-oriented" consoles it would be just nice.

In the case of the 360 at least, it is probably the same reason why it doesn't have an internet browser -- MS is afraid of losing sales of Windows licenses due to people buying a 360 and using it for most of their needs.

Console gaming is of very little interest to me, especially when compared to PC gaming. My brother has a PS3 & 360, but I can't stand the 360 controller, so I don't go near it often. I do like the Gran Tourismo games & college football games, but that's about it. The other games, regardless of the quality of graphics & detail, are typically of very little interest to me.

With that being said, I can easily play BF2 15 hours a week on the PC.

I "only" play games on the PC and only play on the Wii if my wife or son ask me to help out on lego something or other. I just don't like the whole controller thing even when I try to get into it.

I have considered buying a PS3 for the BluRay capability. If I did, I might buy some Games for it, but overall I have no interest.

I'm interested. I own a 360. If I owned a 360 and wasn't interested in console games, I'd be fucking retarded.

It's just an elitist attitude that some of you have with PC gaming. I love PC gaming and dump too much money into it but love console gaming as well. Both are great and I welcome both as well. The only problem I have is consolizing PC games.

This. I hate all you PC elitist bastard, platform snobs. D:

I hate console elitist bastards too. But you PC guys are the worst. If thing were done your way, I'd lose half my gaming entertainment.

I am not interested in consoles in the least. I don't own one, and I don't even own a dedicated TV (TV card in PC). I use my PC for all my electronic entertainment, and it is no exception with games. I grew up playing computer games, and consoles are just weird to me. I don't hate consoles; I hate people that hate on pc gaming while they try to push a console agenda on us!

So Microsoft's solution is to not compete against Sony and let the PS3 completely dominate this segment of the market? I've tried the PS3 browser and it's pretty good. MS is making a huge mistake by not having something equivalent.

That's debatable. While it would be nice to have more options I can't think of any reason someone would actually want to browse the internet through a console. If you have your console hooked up to the internet that means you probably have a computer of some sort, which is going to be about 100x easier to browse the web with.

The PS3 is already connected to your super expensive plasma TV. If you're trying to show someone a cool youtube video, do you show them on the PS3 or on your computer?

Not necessarily. I own two and really have little to no interest in console gaming.

From the controls to the controllers themselves, I have never been a huge fan of console games. Obviously some games do work better with a controller like Madden and racing games when you don't use a wheel, but I have never been a sports fan and racing games get old quickly to me. I just find the things that are accepted and loved on the console to be things that turn me off to gaming in general.

The reason I own 2 360s is pretty much only for Windows 7 Media Center and the occasional Netflix. I have a gold subscription only because someone usually gives me one as a gift since they know I play games which to them means console.

Uh, my PC easily, since it's resolution is 1680 wide by 1050 high, whereas my TV is only 1080 wide by whatever high (much less, 700-something?). Plus, my PC has a real browser, as opposed to the PS3's gimpy and SUPER SLOW "browser-lite".

Seriously, PCs had "1080p" as their standard resolution over a decade ago. They've since moved on to bigger and better resolutions. "1080p" is nothing special. Even 1680x1050 is considered an "average" resolution by current PC standards, and that is way better than "1080p".

1080 is the second number, so 1680x1050 is not even 1080, just fyi.

Wow, egg on my face. :$

Still, things look better on my PC than on my TV (probably due to the pixels being stretched over 22" as opposed to 42"). And the PS3 browser is pretty poor. That much I do know. :p

There are so many variables here. If you sit 2 feet from a 22" at 1680x1050 and 2 feet from a 42" at 1920x1080, of course the PCs going to "look better." You should be about 2.5 feet from the 22" and 4.5 feet from the 42" for optimal viewing.

Then you also have the quality of the monitor/TV and the calibration (or lack thereof). If you're comparing a Dell 22" IPS monitor to a Sanyo 42" TV, then your 22" monitor is causing the visual improvements, not the PC. If your monitor is calibrated better (they usually are better at stock settings than TVs) and your TV is on "torch" mode (high brightness and contrast), then that's another reason that the PC would look better than the PS3.

To do a fair comparison, you'd need to connect the PC to the TV and run it at the same settings as you have for the PS3. You'll probably find little visual difference unless you have a high-end video card and can turn AA all the way up. The PC is likely to still look better, but the difference is probably not as highly noticeable as what you're talking about.

I like how my PC looks on my Dell 24" monitor, and I like how my PS3 looks on my 50" Pioneer plasma. I don't know if I could choose one as superior to the other. I have a higher viewing angle with my 24" monitor, because I can't move my couch close enough to the TV to get the 36-degree viewing angle that I like. However, I have a much better sound system hooked up to the PS3, and that really adds to the experience. I'd just say the experiences are different without one being superior to the other. I tend to play different games on the PC and PS3, so the two are really a competition to me. I thoroughly enjoy playing each, and I mainly just shy away from fps on the PS3, because I suck at them with the gamepad.

I'd show them on my laptop which would take about a 1/10 of the time that it would to browse the web with a game controller.

I understand your point. It's a convenience for some, but I just don't see most people using the web browser feature if they already have a desktop or laptop in the house.

I just picked up a PS3 a little over a month ago for CoD:MW2. Prior to that I was PC elitist starting my gaming days on a Commodore 64 and never touching a console up till this point. I got the console because most of my local friends play shooters on it instead of a PC and I caved. The single player was pretty good on the controller especially when you consider my negative attitude going into it. I on the other hand HATE online play! I realize even on the PC side there's no dedicated servers, but the way you get match up in game is terrible, the wait is killer, it's just a dumbed down process. Oh yeah and I suck at MP with a controller :)

Then I found Sega's The Show Baseball game. OMG it's like heaven for a huge baseball fan who's had to suffer decades of non-action baseball games on the PC.

So I wouldn't say I'm uninterested in console games, they def have some titles that play out better then they do on a PC. Plus it's nice to sit on a couch and view the action at a distance with a big screen TV. You don't have to screw around with driver updates, game patches, copy protection, etc. It's pretty much plug and play.

However, not being able to build a race track on the console games I have, to run a mod, and to pull up a usable web browser is a big draw back that I've grown all to familiar with on the PC side.
