Me: 5'9"
Mom: 5'1"
Dad: 6'0"
Brother: 6'0"

I am taller than the men on my Mom's side of the family (uncle is 5'7", grandfather is 5'6"), but shorter than the men on my Dad's side (cousin is 6'2", uncle is 6'4").

Also got the slim build from my Dad as opposed to the stockier build on my Mom's side (my brother got that).

It seems as if half the people who replied in this thread is over 6 feet tall.

And that somehow surprises you considering the average height for a white male in the US is about 5'10.5"?

Dad 5'11"
Mom 5'
Me 5' 7"

I got screwed since all my cousins on my dad's side are 5'10" plus. Even my uncles on my mom's side are 5' 10" plus.

the typical rule is find the average height between both parents, then add 6 inches for a male and subtract 6 inches for a female.

Works perfectly for me.

Me and Dad = 6'2"
Mom = 5'2"

I had to pick "taller than mom, shorter than dad" when in reality me and my dad are the same height, we're both 5"11. My mom is a little shorter, and my sister is somewhere in between.

Who voted "shorter than mom, taller than dad" and what are the measurements?

Maybe we need a "Is your mom taller or shorter than your dad?" thread?

Taller, but taller than short is still short. Both are 5'3" and under, I'm only 5'4", so fail. I got the yard stick out today, and apparently I'm only 5'3.75" with short hair. Epic fail.

As far as I know I'm the tallest of the last couple of generations in our families at 6'2"
Dad was 5'11" Mom 5'8"

I am 6'0".
Dad is 5'7".
Mom is 5'8".
I am the shortest male, out of about 10, on my mom's side of the family by 3". They are giants.

I'm the tallest in the family... my mom is 5 ft 2, my dad is 5 ft 7, my sister is 5 ft 3, and I'm 5 ft 9.

This question came up on the Wii votes channel once. I was surprised that a 60% majority said that they were taller than their parents... until I realized how many 8 to 12 year olds probably took that poll 🙂

I'm a full foot taller than my mom ever was, but my dad died before I was born, (Korean War) so I never knew for sure how tall he was...IIRC, my mom once told me he was about 5-10...so I'm, about 3-3 1/2 inches taller than that.

Me and Dad = 6'2"

it works for most people

Works perfectly for a sibling, but not for me. I sit in fetal, crossed leg position, and was malnourished during puberty, so that might explain it. My chest is disproportionately larger than my legs.
