I am bored so I broke down my picks so everyone can make fun of me 😛
Openers are hard due to the fact you don't know how players have aged or developed nor how free agent gains/losses will impact football. QBs tend to be a little off and every team has the "we have a chance!" enthusiasm. Home teams in particular get their best home crowd show. It is hard to read week one.
Green Bay at Seattle # They have lost once at home in the last two season (18 games). Seattle has not lost by more than 7 in two years. With a healthy Harvin, a better Wilson, and maturing and healthy O-line I think Seattle's offense will surprise a Green Bay defense I am not sold on and may be weak up the middle with Raji gone. On defense I think Lane (slot corner replacing Thurman) can be picked on but overall the unit is returning 9 of 11 starters. Serious props to GB if they can pull this off in Seattle but I think this is a blow out.
New Orleans at Atlanta # I like the Brandon Cooks addition but not the Sproles trade. Atlanta may be healthy but I don't believe in their run game and I think the Saint's D is better this year.
Minnesota at St. Louis # Tough to pick the Rams without a QB but that defense is nasty and I am not sold on the Vikes.
Cleveland at Pittsburgh # I like Clevland' D but without a proven QB or Receiver corp I don't think the Brownies can pull this off in Pitt. If Pitt loses this is a signal they are in for a looong season and need to rebuild.
Jacksonville at Philadelphia # The Jags will surprise some people and I expect Foles w/o Jackson to come down to earth a little but I think the gap is big between these two--expect Philly to crank up an offensive explosion for week 1.
Oakland at NY Jets # I don't like a first game rookie QB against a Rex D. But the Jets offense could lose the game...
Cincinnati at Baltimore # I think Cincy has a pretty talented team. Put Russell Wilson on Cincy and they are SB contenders. The question is whether Dalton is going to pull a Schaub after last years break down? Even though this is a home game for Baltimore the lack of a tried and true run game and all the Rice drama won't help their cause.
Buffalo at Chicago # I don't know if the Chicago D is a lot better, but even marginally better should be OK with the weapons Cutler has. Buffalo had a stout D but EJ Manual isn't scaring anyone yet.
Washington at Houston 1:00 # Houston is interesting but until the QB situation is sorted out Johnson and Foster's best years are being wasted. I am interested in seeing the pass rush! Washington looked bad in the preseason but I think with Jackson and Morris they get an O spark... or RGIII gets eaten alive by Clowny and Watt.
Tennessee at Kansas City # I like Jake Locker and I think the Titan D is solid and the Titans may be able to run the ball. But as many holes KC has (overrated imo) I think they have enough talent at home to get the win.
New England at Miami # Ryan Tannahil is overlooked in the 2012 QB class. He isn't a Wilson or Luck or even RGIII yet but considering his coaching situation and OL he has not been horrible. Not sure how good the NE offense will be early in the season but I think Brady wills them to a win on the road for another tough/tight game.
Carolina at Tampa Bay # I think Carolina is a shell of last years team (especially at skill positions at both sides of the ball), plus Newton is hurt. I think Lovie is being overhyped but he is a good coach and TB should be a LOT better. TB needs to play away from that nasty front 7.
San Francisco at Dallas # I think this is the year SF falls apart. Just not against that horrible Dallas defense! SF's O has really struggles so this is great medicine.
Indianapolis at Denver # Mr. Luck, meet Mr. Ware and Mr. Miller. I think Indy is an average team, very inconsistant, and relies too much on Luck without weapons to regularly execute a Denver style O attack. I think losing Matthis is huge, too. For Denver I think they are aging and will be gassed by the end of the year but I expect good things out of the gate and injuries to catch up with them by year end. I think not investing in a good rushing attack was a mistake for Denver. Although the matchup was close @ Indy last year I think Denver wins this one big at home.
NY Giants at Detroit # Walter, Walter, Walter... why did you have to call out Megatron? The Giant OL got "better" but they still aren't good--if Suh and Fairley are in game shape and motivated (?) I fear for Eli because that O in the preseason looked BAD.
San Diego at Arizona # Arizona is out a DL and both Inside Backers against a solid SD rush attack. I think Rivers is under appreciated, too. Arizona has some nice weapons but how much do you trust Palmer? And knowing Arizona there may be more SD fans at their home opener!
