I don't think that I am. I don't see how this is some sort of requirement of humanity as some are saying. At times my dad can be somewhat racist, but I haven't ever felt a disliking or any different towards a person because they are of another nationality.

I have some occasional cultural prejudices but I am not at all a racist. Skin color just doesn't mean a thing to me. Now if someone were to be all up in my face gangbangin keepin it real, yeah I don't like that. But skin color has nothing to do with that.

No shit. Anybody voting "No" is a liar or delusional.

i can say pretty honestly that im not racist. i am a mex/ german half breed that was raised by my german mom and a black stepdad. lived in soouth phoenix, went to a school that was predominantly black and mexican. there were more native americans than white people there. i didnt get abused by people, or singled out for being white at all. i moved to a rich school in tempe fro high school (kids drove better cars than most adults do) and still didnt get messed with really. i was still poor, just lived in a better neighborhood. i still dont jump to conclusions based on color or appearance, and im just as likely to talk to anyone that approaches me in a public place.

i voted no. im pretty sure im not a racist.

Denial is the first stage.

theres nothing wrong with disliking a person if they werent friendly etc, but judging people and having a hatred or intolerance to someone because of their race or country, just shows your stupidity

well done

Sure. Everybody is. Most crimes are committed by blacks, so I tend to be on my guard in all-black neighborhoods.

Actually, the thing I find really funny is that the most racist and judgmental people I know are Unitarian Universalists - a philosophy that preaches tolerance and acceptance.

They're probably racist in the sense that they see the differences between people of different races, and they accept and tolerate people along with their differences.

Not really a fair question. If I saw a black guy in an alley wearing "gangsta" clothing, I would probably head the other way. If I saw a black guy in an alley wearing a business suit then I wouldn't be scared. Most black people I see dress in the former (granted I don't see many black people here in the midwest). Not sure if that makes me racist. I would probably act the same way if I saw a white guy or hispanic in "gangsta" clothing.

The real question is what are you doing in that alley anyway? ;)

What is an all-black neighborhood? I think what you're calling racism here is actually classism. You mean you're on your guard when you got into a poor neighborhood. And rightfully so. Poverty and unemployment are the leading causes of crime. Blacks don't commit crimes in higher numbers because they're black, they do so because they are MUCH more likely to be poor than whites.

And you can't be serious about the UU's.

This thinking doesn't make you a racist. What is does mean is that you have cultural and class prejudices. I'm not saying that it's necessarily right, just that it's not at all the same thing as racism.

It comes from growing up in a all white neighborhood, going to a school with 2 black students out of 450, going to a high school where the only black students attending were on sports scholarship or some other form of financial aid, and I am now living in the middle of low income housing right off of campus.

Last week I was called a "punk ass white bitch" because some idiot black guy did a U-turn in the middle of the road and almost hit me when I was riding my bike.

It also doesn't help that the majority (read: 95%) of crimes committed on and near campus are by black people.

You judge an entire race based on those living on low income? OP, you're a fucking idiot. Any race living in those circumstances is more prone to committing crime. There's a reason there's more poor black people than white; you might want to take a history class.

Edit: I retract my "fucking idiot" response. I suppose it's natural to make such a judgment if an overwhelming number of people in a race you've gain new exposure to are criminals, regardless of circumstances. You just need to understand the relationship between poverty and crime rates.
