Ooookay....

1) This would stop the spammer/flooders that sign up for multiple accounts using a free, untraceable account.
2) If they could sign up through a non-AOL account then they could spam from there anyway.
3) Even with that argument set aside if they sign up through a non-AOL account it's possible to track that IP and get some "real" info on them and/or stop that specific IP from creating a new account.

Bottom line is it would stop most spammers but let people temporarily exiled to AOL keep posting.

Oh yeah, it could probably also be set up so that you can only post from an AOL account if you have more than a certain number of posts. And mods can change postcounts... I think.

It's not trouble, it's managing permissions. All you have to do is grant access to the posting pages but not to the registration page. Takes 5 minutes or so.

Just admit it, you hate AOL.

I had compucrap, and could not post for awhile. I did a little searching, and found a program to let me post.

Have cable now, but it is possible.

Its been a while so a lot of you dont know exactly why aol is banned, Anandtech was under serious attack from some banned users, back then they were banned by user name or email address which was enough for the run of the mill numbnuts, but there was a group of people who had been banned and continously came back with new email and user names thanks to aol, they could have infinite email addresses, Anandtech worked with aol for quite a while to try and get them to take action against the troublemakers but aol refused, banning all aol users was a last resort for AnandTech, they were left with no other choice.

The people who caused the aol ban were trying to destroy Anandtech.

Just installed AOL 8.0 plus on my father in law's computer, had to do the dreaded fdisk repair & reinstall everything.

AOL is the Borg of the internet, after I installed it, clicking on the internet explorer icon brought up AOHell.

I reformatted it after they (AOL's tech support told him his modem was physically defective & that his TCP/IP was defective & he needed to return his computer to the manufacturer to have the TCP/IP repaired.)

I think they should allow subscribers to post from AOL.
If they abuse their account they lose it and can't post anymore anyhow.

No, I have never used AOL, but I have met poeple who do, and THEY DO NOT BELONG AT ANANDTECH. AOLers suck.
