Are you not allowed to even post from AOL?

If you normally don't use AOL, but are located in a different area for a day, will AT not allow posts from AOL ip's?

does it auto-ban you? :Q

Reason I ask: my gf's trying to reply to a thread, i think she's currently using AOL, but she's gettign the "forbidden" message normally accompanied with being banned. She didn't do anything that would cause a ban, so I wasn't sure if the AOL thing was an issue.

No, AOL users cannot post.

When she returns to her normal connection all will be well.

Agreed!

If they allowed AOL'rs in here, the collective IQ of ATOT would quickly go into number numbers!

That seems a tad unfair. What if someones parents insist on AOL. They cant be ATers

AOL typically has a "don't care" policy on abusers, so many networks will simply ban all of AOL since a reletively large number of problem users from a reletively small percentage of non-problem users is an acceptable loss.

well, I knew they didn't allow AOL-ers, but I didn't realize they acutally disallow posts coming from any of their IP's.

Oh well.

Too bad for them.

He who owns the forums shall make the rules.

I don't see why you won't allow regular AT members who only have access to AOL for a certain period post. You just shouldn't be able to register from it.

I meant "negative numbers". My fingers were typing faster than my brain! :p

Either that, or I've been exposed to one too many AOL'rs, and I'm loosing my mind!

Can't post from wmconnect as well. They lease their ip addies from aol and they are on the forbidden list.

This is one of the reasons why I don't subscribe (can't post from home because of my IP)

AOL has their network setup in a manner so that it is damn near impossible to ban any range of IPs to keep any potential abusers out without banning something like a quarter of the country. I op an IRC channel and had to ban about half of all AOL users because of a floodbot running on an AOL account with auto-reconnect enabled so the IP changed with every kick. Anyway, because AOL sends free accounts to everyone coupled with their utter lack of cooperation with system administrators trying to track down problem users a lot of places ban AOL IPs. Every now and then AOL changes its policies to what admins on other things would like, but it usually takes something pretty drastic (like DAL banning AOL back when DAL was cool) for that to happen.

Bottom line: if your gf wants to post here tell her to get a free NetZero account or 3. I think NZ IPs aren't banned from posting. Besides, I'll take NZ over AOL any day. At least I can supertrick the ads away with NZ.
