IQ scores

* Over 140 - Genius or near genius
* 120 - 140 - Very superior intelligence
* 110 - 119 - Superior intelligence
* 90 - 109 - Normal or average intelligence
* 80 - 89 - Dullness
* 70 - 79 - Borderline deficiency
* Under 70 - Definite feeble-mindedness

5% of people have an IQ under 70 and this is generally considered as the benchmark for "mental retardation"

1 out of every 20 people? This explains a lot.

Depends whose system you are following.

Top 2% for intelligence? Na, I'm smart but I'm not going to try and fool myself into believing I am smarter then I am, like it seems a lot of others have judging by the poll.
Now for common sense, definitely. Most people lack that nowadays.

Honestly, I don't think I'm in the top two percent of any of those.

I do know that there are 140 liars on this board though. :laugh:

relative to what? In the US, ~24-25% of the population has a bachelor's degree or higher. That means if you're in college, chances are you're probably at LEAST in the top quartile of the population (yes, I know, you can be a super genius without having gone to college, but cmon, let's be serious now).

I work with a lot of recent college grads. Trust me, the piece of paper doesn't guarantee intelligence.

True f'ing story. I can't believe the amount of people with whom I went to school who couldn't pen a proper sentence. There were a few guys on my floor freshmen year who wrote papers that wouldn't have passed in my 9th grade English class. Oh, and I went to public school! 🙂

lol, Now I know most people on ATOT are full of crap (or at least this is another confirmation) Seriously, 57% of you believe that you are in the top 2%. My, we must really attract the geniuses here. Above average intelligence, yes I could accept that. But top 2%, thats really pushing it. There are a lot of very smart people out there, and I am pretty sure I'm not in the upper 2%.

Yep. It's hard to find people who can think and can understand the consequences of their actions. If you change A to B then C might need to change to K, so you'd better check it to make sure it should still be C. If not, you should change it to K. Otherwise Chaotic42 might come and beat the F out of U. 😛

Well, I know I score dead in the middle on the typical IQ test. 😱 But IMO I have more "everyday common sense" than most.

In fact, many PH'd people I've worked with can do quantum physics in their head, but can't figure out a child-proof medicine cap.

Or as Gary Larson put it: Gifted

I score in the 99th percentile on standardized IQ tests but that just means I'm quite good at logic and symbol processing. It helps with my software development job, but not with anything else in life.

There are also several million people in the US as smart as I am, so I'm not automatically the most qualified to rule you all. The shadow gathering will determine that early next year.
