How is it a test? You either say "yes" or "no." It's not like an IQ test or something. 😕

If you vote "Yes", then you are. If you vote "No" then you are not.

You know, there is another side to this question. I would argue that the answers you're seeing have far less to do with actual intelligence and far more to do with people's ego. It would take someone with a pretty high opinion of themselves to answer "yes" I'm smarter than 98% of the people out there. Just a thought...

There are a lot of people in the world.

I voted yes, but I regret it. I'd say top 10% easily though.

The thing is, what is intelgence? I can not memoirize a thing, and hate reading books, but put me in front of a technical problem or math problem and I'll own you!

Wow, I'm sure the OP never thought of this possibility. It's not like he stated it as the purpose of the poll in the OP.

The test is to see how many people think they are gifted versus how many people are actually gifted.

and how will you determine the second number? the demographic here probably does have a skewed distribution compared to the "general population"
Skewed in which direction, though? 😉

: ) Amanda

Depends on the forum. P&N skews it so far in the down direction, I don't even know if the rest of the forums, including the technical ones, can compensate for it.

Previous psychology tests indicate that most people believe themselves to be better than average in most respects, which is obviously impossible.

I suspect the same thing is going on here.

My IQ is in the 98th percentile (like 98.3 or something) and I went to Kent State University...

I would be comfortable saying those two cancel out and im average 🙂

How'd you like Kent?

Voting yes in a stupid poll.

I have no clue if I'm in the top 2%. Probably not. But top 25%? Almost certainly. Top 10%? Possible. That's more a reflection of how dumb most people are than of how smart I am, though.

BlackTigers: Let me put it this way... I had a hell of a lot of fun and I learned a huge amount of stuff but it was because I read ~3 extra books a semester about the classes I took. If you only rely on the professors and the required texts you will never get your money's worth. They had some really annoying shit (parking, residence hall rules, petty teachers, etc) and they had a few good points. All in all its what you make of the experience. Im pretty sure that I would have had a similar experience no matter where I went.

I only took 2 standardized IQ tests in my life, both in 140-144 range if I recalled. Is that like top 2%? What is the average/typical IQ?

it differs per test thats why they typically use standard deviations to compare results. 100 was "average" on the last one I took about 4 years ago and I was 3 standard deviations away.

No and it's not my fault. I wasn't breastfed! Perhaps it is why I desire the breast so much now.

Define intelligence. There's more than one by some theories. Am I in the top 2% of raw musical intelligence? Maybe, but I'm also an Engineering major and prefer to keep my music as a hobby. As such my skills aren't as refined as say, a concert pianist or opera singer.

Am I in the top 2% of physical intelligence? Probably not. I need some minor experience before my reflexes get bang on at doing something (catching a ball, frisbee, etc)

I will say that my IQ (as taken twice professionally by my psychologist) is well into the 150s, but there are so many tests for it and it's not a real measure of intelligence, so that number could easily vary.

I voted "Yes" because I figured everyone else would vote "Yes" too, further screwing with the OP.

probably not. i'm a smart guy, but not that smart, i don't think. there are some people who definitely put me to shame. especially on AT.
