Are you happy with what you do for a living?

I'm 26 and sadly I still don't know what I really want to do. I'm still working at my first real job after graduation which I'm losing interest in real fast. What's keeping me from leaving is that all the available job listings in my area are just as uninteresting if not worse than what I'm currently doing. That got me thinking, I honestly don't know any people who absolutely love their jobs. So I'm curious, how many of you folks actually like what you do for a living and would be content with working there indifintely?

For the minimalist and lazy person such as myself I think the freedom and flexibility of the job outweighs the relatively low pay (for now) and clueless management I have to deal with on a daily basis. The overtime is there if and when I need it, or I can get up and go whenever I feel like it. People come to me, I don't go to people if I don't have to or want to.

The ratio of actual work done:hour at work is favourable on my side.

Since I'm not teaching yet I can't say for sure, but I can speculate a little. The pay is going to be great for me, but horrible by societal perception and comparison. Fortunately I don't ever really care about my pay, all I care about is doing something I believe in and being happy doing it. For that reason I think I'll love teaching...maybe not the specific school I'm at, or class I'm teaching, but always the education field itself.

My job pays me the median for someone of my work experience and education.

The work is easy and the people are nice.

I don't hate my job but I don't really like it either.

There is room for advancement but I only see myself going up maybe 3 steps up the ladder where my pay will get topped off at $100k a year

My friend who is some sort of derivitives analyst makes $125k after bonus and we started work at the same time. The only upside is I work 1/2 the hours but I also make 1/2 the pay.

I like my job. I am learning a lot. The £££ is okay but the career prospects are great. I have great mates at work and i train at lunchtimes = bonus :D. I also get to cycle 10minutes to work also which is really refreshing, just sucks in the rain...

I like the benefits, but the base pay sucks. They need to compensate better for the variations in gasoline prices, which directly affects my take home, yet is required to do the job.

The job is ok, the people I have to deal with are, for the most part, invisible to me, so in balance, I can deal with it.

Great job (EMS), great boss, decent pay. Honestly, the only dissatisfying part of the job is the locale a rural county near the Appalachians. We supplement a volunteer agency that used to be hot stuff, now many of them can barely find the keys to the ambulances. And for as wonderful as my boss is, their boss is equally awful. But to the guy that started this thread, ever thought of trying EMS?

I enjoy many aspects of it. I work with friends and my fiance (might seem odd, but it's actually quite nice), the pay is great and the work can be fulfilling. We have a great time working together on projects, but the long hours and lengthy discussions can sometimes burn you out.

Am I happy with my job? It pays the bills, and I'm good at what I do.

There are lot worse things I could be doing and getting paid lot less. My pay is equal to my output, so I get what I put in.

Real work is rarely fun.

I love my job. My pay is a little low, I guess, but it's a fairly low stress environment.

I like my job, the hours (12 hr graveyard), the 6 figure pay, and the people I work with.

What more could you ask for?

I'm out of the Navy after 8 years, I have a little credit card debt, but not much, and I'm working in dispatch in the mean time before I start college. I can't say much about this job, as it is kind of an inbetween thing.... As for the pay, I've never made this little in my life. :Q But everything is working out.....

But you are still HOT! ;)

I work in a place that I like to say is effort driven as opposed to results driven.

It is a constant battle to get me to work. However I look at what Am able able to do and I TRY not to focus on what I can not do.

If you can look and see that you are giving your all and able to acomplish what you want you are not a loser.

Ha, I read your post and immediately thought you lived in NY and by the look of your profile you do. I feel the same way, nothing but uninspiring jobs here.
