Are you happier now or ten years ago?

10 years ago. I had just switched from dial-up to DSL & it was before file sharing had hit the mainstream soccer-moms via napster. So pings for games were awesome.

Ten years ago. I had 1 very young daughter, my wife was healthy, we had a super cheap house payment and a massive income. Plus it was pre-9/11, pre war, and pre resession.

Now I have a snotty teen daughter, and spoiled mommas-boy son, a huge house payment, and a wife with serious health problems.

Time magazine even nominated 2000-2009 the "Worst Decade Ever":

9 years ago when I was in college yea; even senior year of high school while not terrible sucked balls compared to college or later though.

10 years ago I was in my freshman year of college and failing miserably due to too much partying. I had moved out of home and lived with a horrible roommate.

Now I have been working in a desk job for over 4 years, married and working on my MBA-MIS with a 4.0 currently.

It's a tough call.

Back when I was 10, I was in blissful ignorance. I had no concept people wanted to destroy the US, I figured my parents and grandparents would always be with me (despite the recent loss of my great grandmother). My biggest worries were what to do after school. Then again, I was a bit of a brat, hated school (though still loved learning), and was ignorant.

Now I'm in college (which I hate in almost every way), and I just want to get on with my life and have a real job. My dziadziu has passed, and the mortality of my parents has been recognized. The innocence about other people and the US is gone, replaced by cynicism about most things. Honestly, the only real plus is I have an amazing girlfriend who I would like to spend the rest of my life with.

I don't know which was better. I guess on the surface 10 years ago, but I'm pretty good right now thanks to my g/f. If you had asked me last year, I would have said 10 years ago without any hesitation.
