I fear the American way of death. The cold brutality of the medical industry keeping folks long past living as artificially preserved profit centers. The utter grotesqueness of American funerary rituals with drain and fill of the corpse and open casket makeup jobs. The Muslims have a much saner approach - wrap the corpse in a sheet and have it in the ground by sundown.

you've obviously never been addicted to anything.. it's not a matter of choice at that point.. when your addicted to something like opiates, its not just the being sober part that your scared of.. you become a monster, and your running from yourself, and the way you feel when you dont have it.. you convince yourself that YOU ARE who you are when your high, i dont know i cant even put it into words, and anyone who hasnt been addicted like HARDCORE addicted can not even imagine how it is..

like 2 years ago, i was CONVINCED i would never quit, it was out of the question, i would either be addicted, and happy, or dead..

now i sit here, sober as a judge, i can actually feel emotions again, i've lost alot, but i've gained MY LIFE BACK.

Good for you dude, just keep it going one day at a time now.

there's a difference between CHOICE... and free will.

Drug Addicts always have Free Will.

They CHOOSE not to stop being addicts.

i dont know if this makes sense to you... but when i was an addict, i thought it was "silly" to think i'd ever be clean, or happy clean again.

now that im clean, i think it's "silly" i let something take over my life like that..

it's strange... its not just a matter of saying something and doing it.. it goes SO MUCH DEEPER than that once your not getting high just to feel high...

You're right. I haven't. At least nothing illegal.
Want to know why?

because i have a strong moral center that tells me NOT to take illegal drugs.

Something you seem to be lacking.

because even after nearly dying... you just HAD to do it again. Not once.. but TWICE.

As he said... he HAD to take drugs one more time.

NO he didnt. He CHOSE to take illegal narcotics one more time.

If the outcomes always one thing (as you keep stating) then they have no choice. There is no free will if the outcome is stated before the decision is made.

They have a choice. They cannot make the correct one because they are WEAK WILLED.. feeble minded.

You keep stating that the outcome will always be that they relapse, therefore they have no choice but to relapse.

They, pretty obviously, do have a choice and many addicts don't relapse.

To say all addicts are weak willed/feeble minded says more about you than it does about them, and it doesn't say good things about you.

I voted yes, but it is not death itself I fear. It is those I would leave behind that depend on me.

I have seen my share of death. In just the last two weeks. I saw a very young mother die in front of me as I and two others tried to save her, and I also had to determine another patient was beyond resuscitative efforts while their young child was playing games in the next room.

Both of those hit me hard as I was thinking what would happen with my 4 year old daughter were I to die, and not be around to care for her.

Despite this I still knowingly risk my life when it is necessary to do so. I have entered burning houses that had fire showing or blowing out of most of the openings in attempt to locate people still inside. I chose to do it to search for any survivable space inside that may hold a victim. Recently, the conditions were bad enough I actually consciously thought about the risk of dying as I entered, and decided it was worth the risk, as we had confirmed that two occupants were still in the dwelling.

The thoughts were not of the fear of the building collapsing and crushing me, or getting burned, but of what effect it would have on my daughter.

i guess i just think differently than you, i dont see anything "morally" wrong with abusing drugs... the only problem is that it alters the way you feel.. and if you get accustomed to feeling the way it makes you feel, it's gonna be hard to be "yourself" when you are "yourself"..i dont like feel "guilty" for doing drugs though, i feel "guilty" for being weak enough for letting it control me though.. but the actual drugs.. i see nothing wrong with them, they are just substances that trigger chemicals/enzyhmes in your brain to do certain things... other things can also cause these exact changes in brain chemistry.. there's a reason the "endorphines" in your brain are called "endorphines" it comes from "endiginous sp? morphine" as in.. morphine naturally created by your body... the same exact release of endorphines happens when you do a shot of heroin as when you bust a nut... or if you break your leg... so the drug is basically just replacing the natural morphine, and your then controlling the amount/when you get that exhiliration.. that's the problem...

As i said earlier.. i'm not feeble minded, so i've never been addicted to anything illegal.

hell.. i'm not even addicted to anything legal.
So you don't know how much will power you need to break out of an addiction, then?

Just to clear some things up in this entire thread:

1) If you're not afraid of the only fucking life you have ending, then seek help or try changing your situation. Better yet, off yourself or just stop acting like an interweb hardass, dumbass.

2) Addicts are weak people. You were fucking stupid to start a habit you knew good and well could lead to a lifelong addiction.

3) I'm awesome.
