I'm a great speller, but my grammar skills are a bit lacking.

well I shouldn't even say that, it isn't that they're lacking, I just don't care.

I use a huge amount of slang and made up contractions...stuff like that, when I talk. When I type though, for the most part, I type correctly.

when I was in Jr high I was asked to represent the school @ a district spelling bee or something... I turned it down, I thought it was too nerdy.

I have more trouble now than when I was younger, insofar as I had no spelling difficulties when I was younger, but I do now. haha

But I generally don't care as much on this kind of highly casual and informal venue, its not as though anyone is going to win an essay contest awarding a full scholarship to an Ivy League school by posting on Anandtech. Like I'm going to be concerned about my spelling then use chat slang and smilies. YEAH!

I'm not quite that anal retentive about spelling and grammar, but proper capitalization owns you, and I hate people who think that they're (contraction for "they are;" quite different from their, a possessive pronoun) 31337 because they can write in h4x0r sp34k.

It's (contraction for "it is," not to be confused with "its," the possessive form of "it") not easy to become a good speller, but it's well worth the effort!

In general I have very good spelling (and general english skills), but lately I find myself questioning even little things - Proper punctuation, the spelling of words I once knew...

Frightening, really, I occasionally feel like I'm losing my grasp of the language.

I type a lot of my posts in Word because I am such a bad speller. According to one of my teachers, an English grad student, it's okay because, "creative people can't spell."

I find myself doing that a lot too. I'll look at words that I think are spelled right, but they'll just look funny to me for some reason. Then I'll look it up at dictionary.com or ask someone, and it's fine. Really disturbing sometimes.

I used to misspell many many words and people some people would kid me about it and others would comment about it in a self satisfied manner indicating that they took considerable pleasure in being able to do something I can't. I always wrote exactly as I am, both in my spelling and in my grammatical structure. For that too I got and get a great deal of heat. Moonbeam is this or that. I get ripped on for vocabulary too. Moonbeam uses search engines and a thesaurus before posting. Riiiiiight. The only thing that matters to me are ideas. Give me a post with content, meaning, feeling, passion, thought and analysis any day. I don't judge people by their spelling since I can't tell if they can spell or not. In order to deflect the superficial, however, I installed a nifty spiffy little forum spell checker. I blue my text and right click it and click spelling. It corrects my text and replaces my post from the clip board with the corrected text. Neat and fast. I've learned a couple of words.
