Really? Sorry for sounding like such a jerk then.
I assumed with the collective geek power on Anand, anything could be fixed :p.

I recall that when the forum was upgraded, multiple extremely capable developers offered to fix every problem and were denied because if you make any changes you invalidate the service contract with Fusetalk. As for receiving any service anyway, I'm not seeing it.

FUSETALK BLOWS.

Exactly.. Usually buyers will say what they want in the first message, and then the next few are discussing or negotiating. I need to look at the first message to know what he really wanted if I have multiple or similar items for sale.

argh!

I just sent someone a PM, but now it won't show it to me. My user list shows this person there, but I click the name, and nothing's shown.

The new slogan (and name) for the next version of Fusetalk:

iFusetalk. It doesn't suck anymore!®

They are still in there, try an export and select delete after export. It MIGHT work for you.
You don't have to delete them if you don't want to.

Thanks, though that's kind of a lousy workaround. It only works by date ranges, and I'm trying to go through and delete old PM's by username. This of course doesn't work, as it can't delete the first PM. I'm also trying to catch up on old Heatware evals, but I really can't, because the first PM, indicating the item being sold or bought, isn't appearing.

Hope this gets fixed soon, as I see I'm not the only one who's being annoyed by this.

I was just referred to this thread in another thread I started a few minutes ago:

Topic Title: When you PM at Anandtech, we're talking private!
Topic Summary: Or am I having a personal computer issue?
Created On: 01/26/2008 10:35 AM

OP:

On my laptop, I accessed a PM to me. I made a note to myself, pasting the contents of the PM into it. I wanted that note (which included the content of the PM) accessible on my desktop, so I sent the contents of the note (copy/paste) in an email to myself. However, it never appeared in my inbox. I did it again, same thing. I have been trying to figure this out all morning. From my desktop, the same text will not send (I got it to my desktop by copying a file onto a flashdrive).

I called ATT tech support and a rep couldn't figure it out. I tried copying and pasting the text to notepad, saving, opening, copying into an email and sending to myself. Still doesn't arrive in my inbox. It's in my sent folder, fine.

The rep at ATT/Yahoo escalated the issue to 2nd level but after waiting about 1/2 hour, I was dropped off the line. I have a case number and can call them again.

Does this have something to do with Anandtech's PM system? Is there some code embedded in there that keeps you from sending the contents as an email?

Lots of us care - there's just nothing we can do. :(

What I don't understand is why and how they screwed up something that AFAIK used to work? What's the point of upgrading if you are essentially making your software unusable?

Email only works when you have people's email address, AFAIK, that's not always true in these forums.

If there's something they should heavily prioritize here it is making sure the PM system works. It can't be that complicated. It's a relatively simple part of the system.

They have a lot of nerve calling those other working systems "legacy."

Seriously. I gave up on "my Anandtech", but are we fixing anything??

Is it impossible to get someone to look into this issue? Is this a Fusetalk issue? Don't those people troubleshoot their code? Or are they bankrupt?

FYI, this thread is two months old.

You know, if I were using code furnished by another company and they were in the habit of delivering new versions that break things that used to work, I would keep the older versions and use them when appropriate. Fusetalk used to more or less work. Now, many functions seem to be chronically broken. I got tired of trying to update my system rigs. Is that working yet? Obviously, PMs are a higher priority issue, though.

From what I read in other threads, this (live) site is Fusetalk's test environment. The admins here used to customize the code to fix certain things, but doing that now would violate the support contract. So now issues are reported to DerekWilson who forwards them to Fusetalk requesting fixes.

I don't know why the support contract is so important. It is obvious that Fusetalk's support doesn't mean squat, given how long some of the forum problems have been here. :p

Agreed. They should just hire a programmer to fix the code, then never upgrade the forum software again.
