Are we at the point where a true DIY (motherboard upgradeable) notebook is possible?

I'm not getting the point of this as I rather have a standard M class notebook CPU and more then just 4GB of memory. Not to mention more storage as well. Just much does this card and dock cost anyway?

Compute card XL? (docks to Thunderbolt III lapdock or deskdock)

Remember Thunderbolt III can supply up to 100W of power. (That is a lot of room for CPU, iGPU, memory and storage). Then the lapdock or deskdock could have even more storage in it and be powered with a AC adapter* greater than 100W.

*or ATX/SFX PSU (in the case of a larger deskdock)

P.S. Was thinking Kabylake-G would be a good starting point.

System 76 discusses at 13:57 to 14:57 modular design.

They are going to have a chassis controller (handles trackpad, keyboard, power button, battery etc.) and then have the compute component be separate.

Replaceable motherboard on the way!
