Are things improving for anyone else economically?

Are things getting better for anyone else? The hardest point for me in this economy was the first 6 months of 2009. Things have been steadily improving for me since then. It seems like all I see in the news is doom and gloom though.

I haven't really been effected by any of the economic problems till recently. A company I do contract work for 8 hours a week is moving their headquarters in a couple months, so there goes almost 25% of my income.

Nope. I'd say things are just getting worse and worse. Everything seems to cost more, taxes are going up, and the corporations who messed it all up really haven't been hit on their bottom line hard enough IMO.

My economic situation has only improved, however I didn't start from very high anyway (nor am I "very" high now, but high enough).

it's been great, financial-wise, for us over the last several years and if things go as planned it will be even better once my wife has gotten her nursing degree and starts working. I thank the big guy upstairs every night considering how tough it's been for many other people.

Our company cut some benefits in '09 which they have since returned ( 401k matching, tuition re-reimbursement, etc)

I am noticing one disturbing trend in my personal circle of experience. Since the last "downturn" companies ( including mine) who need to expand are leveraging contract labor / 3rd party outsourcing ( who use contracted labor), and not wanting to hire people in permanent positions.

This matches my experience almost to a "T". We haven't hired anyone "full time" in a LONG time. Yet it seems like there's a new consultant out here daily.

Aside from not getting a cost of living raise last year (but got a promotion still), I haven't really been affected by the economy going to hell.

No.
No COL raise, none expected,
401K contributions eliminated, no sick days, no holidays.

I'm stockpiling for the revolution.

Doing much better than last year. Last summer my job offer was rescinded because of the economy and I couldn't find anything else, even shit restaurant jobs. This summer I had many interviews and a couple internship offers. On the job market front for my field things are looking much better.

I went from an unemployed recent grad to a sushi chef's apprentice making 7.50 an hour.

Something is better then nothing i guess 🙂

They still haven't returned the free soda at work, but otherwise things have been fairly good for me, I jumped to a new company in December with a nice increase in pay, but now I'm the FNG, so if it hits the fan, I'm first on the list.

my take-home pay went down (because my yearly raise didn't fully compensate for increases in insurance costs + taxes), but I'm a month away from going from paying $1000/month in rent in $600... that's going to be a hella nice improvement for me economically.

I went from $665 to $1250 🙁

But then again, my wife started making bank compared to what she was making while in school.

Yes things are getting better, but only because my truck is going to be paid off next month, I'm giving myself a raise, so to speak.

Things are getting better. 10% raise, wife's car payment is ending in 2 months, which frees up another 400 bucks a month. She is getting another like 5% raise.

Too bad I have a wedding to pay for next year and internal family stuff put me 7 grand in the hole with the credit cards.
