Are there any TV series that managed to get back on track after jumping the shark?

Would be nice if Heroes did in season 4 but I'm not holding my breath. Stargate sg1 was a bit bumpy for a season or two but it never truely jumped the shark.

I thought it jumped the shark when they replaced Daniel with Jonas...

but bringing Daniel back and removing Jonas... WIN

I'll say Enterprise. It wasn't great to begin with, got kinda worse, but then got really really good for it's last season. Unfortunately, the bell was already rung on the series by that point.

Yeah I was refering to the season with Jonas when I mentioned the bumpy parts.

Any other series?

It's rare for a series to survive jumping the shark.

Good one. Though even their last season wasn't anywhere near the heights of the like of TNG or DS9. But I agree they sucked so much their first couple of seasons that I gave up watching them.

I wish I could say Earth Final Conflict but it just went too far bringing Boone back 😛

LOL now there's a show I haven't thought about in quite some time. Never watched it diligently enough but it did seem to take a turn for the worst when they killed off the Taelons. So your saying it got better?

The first half of Lost season 3 was pretty "meh" but maybe not quite "jumping the shark." I do think the show has been great since then.

Is Lost as a whole worth watching?

Yes, IMO. You absolutely must watch every episode in order for it to make sense though.

Sounds like Heroes. Only that's only really watchable till the end of season 2.

Absolutely. It was frustrating at first because there are a lot of "wtf is going on" moments and some of the answers were seasons away, but so far they have explained a lot of the big questions and they promise to wrap everything up by the end of this season (the last season).

However, it is a fantasy world, so while it might seem realistic-ish at first, it's not. It's not a bad thing but I know when the show first came out, a lot of people were expecting real-world type answers. Also, you will miss details if you watch the whole series in one pass. That's ok for a lot of people, but you do get a lot more out of it if you don't rush through a season a week. I watch each episode as it airs, then watch it again on DVD before the next season starts.

i think season 3 of house sucked, but season 5 was absolutely amazing

Yeah Season 3 lost its way a bit but hardly jumped the shark. The worst of house is the best of almost everything out there so far. Seaons 4 and 5..... Olivia Wild ...... MMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm,...... Sorry what were we talking about again????..... Oh right.........................................................................

Along those lines I would say Star Trek The Next Generation went up and down in quality, but ended on a high note.

Changing out the doctor was almost a shark-jumping, but bringing her back seemed to actually help the show. And I cant think of too many TV series where they dump someone and bring them back later. Cool thing is Beverly Crusher made it all the way to the end and into the movies.

On a completely unrelated note, I often wonder what the show had been like if Tasha Yar stayed on. What would she have been like in the 7th season? The movies?

These are the things that go through my head when I'm bored.

South Park was looking a bit shaky, but not sure if it "jumped the shark", but last season was excellent. I think The Simpsons is on an upswing, although I have loved every episode, including seasons 18-19 which most people seemed to hate.

I just saw season 11 on DVD and it seems like this is where they are starting to suck ass.
I dont know where they got better, if anywhere.

Good one. The name you are looking for is Katherine Pulaski. Yeah she was definitely a step down for the series, though there have been far worse replacements. And yeah Tasha was never on long enough for us to know what she may or may not have become. However from the short time she was on the series I'll hazard a guess and say she was to 1980s for the show going forward.

Cheers was almost canceled after the pilot.

The original Star Trek pilot was trashed by the network, and Gene Rodenberry went back and made another one, which became the show as we know it. The original pilot footage was later used for an episode, though I'm not a big enough geek to know which one.

Majel Barrett was the original #1.
