Are there any trees prettier than a white birch tree??

I thought that too, but I don't think the leaf shape looks right for a maple (view full resolution), at least not compared to the leaves that google images turn up for autumn blaze maples.

i cant see the leafs good enough. the leaf colors do look like a autumn blaze to me

i dunno about the no raking part. my neighbors have several of them that are old an VERY BIG. i see their leaves covering their yards. and they are small and get into everything.

If you're talking about the Western Larch, AKA (incorrectly), the Tamarack, I agree...they're pretty spectacular in the fall.

I'm a big fan of the quaking Aspen trees...unfortunately, they don't do well here. (too hot in the summer, not cold enough in the winter)

I am privy to the japanese stewartia. Beautiful bark. Serrated foliage emerges bronzy purple in spring, develops into a dark green by summer, and turns red or orange in the fall. In midsummer, "glamorous" white camellia-like flowers open in random succession.

So what's your most hated tree? I think I hate my hemlock the most. The fuckin' limbs grow to the ground, and it's a constant headache mowing around it. I bet if I cut every limb off except the highest most branch, the SOB would be 4' off the ground by next year :^S

Most hated tree? Hmm... I like all plants to that's a hard one. I would say hedge shrubs, technically not a tree. Too many fucking generic hedge shrubs around. though I must admit like so many conifers they smell great.

The only deciduous Redwood. Was thought to be extinct until a grove was found in remote China in the 40s, they're now widely available. I just love their lush green foliage come spring. They aren't as pretty as the Western Larch in the fall, but the needles turn this interesting bronze color.

I just planted a 3 year old seedling in a bonsai tray to begin training.

Oh yeah I think there's one of those in a public garden near me here. Very nice tree, needles are unusually sort of soft seeming.

Yea, bushes are a PITA, and boxwood actually stinks. There's a neat little evergreen I like that's shaped like a perfect, classic conifer. A nice compact little cone, that's fairly slow growing. People also do weird stuff to it like a poodle, but I like default shape. I think it's some kind of spruce, but I'm not sure.

Dwarf Alberta Spruce, most topiary sculptures start out with one when they're not using boxwood.

Picea Glauca 'Conica' - Dwarf Alberta Spruce?

Some of my all time favorite are the true Firs and true Cedars.

I have a White Fir that I picked up a couple of years ago, we use it as our living Christmas tree. 🙂 I strung it with solar powered lights.. lol.

When we have our own place, I really want to start a rare/unique conifer garden.

🙁 *sigh* Got home tonight to a note on the door. Electric company wants my 100 year old maple tree taken down because part of it leans over the power lines (It's about 30-40 feet above the power lines.)
