As a former SMOKER,

I dont understand the point of smoking a cigar and not inhaling.. I woulnt inhale every time, but a little here and there..

I am and do the same (every now and then). It's not really a big deal, but I just like having a cigar in my mouth, lit or not.

oral fixation?

They killed my gramps...cancer of the jaw at age 87.

I smoke about 4 per year or so. I'm a bit behind this year.

I like Arturo Fuente's btw.

Keep 'em burning,

3 out of 4 grand parents died from lung cancer from smoking. My Dad still smokes but at least my mom finally gave it up awile ago.

I've tried smoking but it's never done a damn thing for me. No buzz, no nothing except make my nose fill with boogers the day afterwards. Man I hate dragging brown snot out the next morning after being at a club the night before and I didn't even smoke. It's worse if I had just to "fit in."

Basically I smoke about err. once every 4 or 5 months. That's it and that's for social gatherings IF everyone else is smoking and IF I drank enough that it doesn't bother me to have that foul tasting crap in my mouth.

Then again, I once went through 3 packs of cigs in a night just to stay "busy." Was at a club and there was someone there trying to talk to me that I REALLY didn't want to talk to. Having a cig gave me something to do except talk. Never done that again though.

I have 1-2 a year and find thats a good pace for me. Cigars are less dangerous mostly because people smoke less and don't inhale. Check the really long post above, it has a link showing the ADDITIVES that a company puts in their cigarettes, not what is all-ready there. I don't know if that much stuff is added to your normal cigar but I would doubt that much is added.

That being said, I love a good Colombian Breva cigar. I brought some back last time I was there and I have a box on the way from family who are down there. As far as I know you can't buy them in the states because they are a smaller company but the cigars are delicious! Even my wife likes the way the smell and she HATES cigar smoke

Cigar smoke is significantly thicker than cig smoke, but it's also immensely more clean. You don't see cigar companies dumping in nicotine to get smokers addicted. Cigars aren't addictive in the typical sense like cigs are. They're much more refined and classy. They're an acquired taste. You can read up on the net about the things that make a cigar a good cigar and they've got nothing to do with smell and taste, surprisingly. It's common to find people who like poor quality cigars and people who don't like high quality cigars because they base their decision on taste/smell/size. A cigar afficionado bases their decision on things like consistancy of the taste/smell, burn time, the roll, and the packing of the cigar. Consistancy of a make/model of cigar is typically decided over many, MANY of the same cigars. Apparently in order to "test" a cigar to see whether it's good or not, one typically needs to smoke a specific brand's specific "model" of cigar over the course of sometimes years. That's a bit much, for me. I guess I'm too impatient to hold off on a decision until having smoked dozens and dozens of the same cigar to see if the next one was exactly the same as the previous one. I think it stems from not being experienced enough to be able to mark the subtle differences between two cigars out of the same box. I don't think most people, myself included, can actually smoke two out of the same box and go "oh, hmm, yeah I can tell the difference" unless they're REALLY cheap cigars.

Smoking takes years off your life...but those are only the last few years and they aren't any good anyways. Smoke up. I like a cigar every now and then. :)

Basically, smoking regularly is not a good idea, whether it's cigars or cigarettes.

And throat and mouth cancer can happen without smoking or tobacco use. What's the point of living now.

Cigars just stink.(IMO) Why bother with the stench if you're not even getting a buzz or something?

I've heard that one single exposure to a carcinogen can cause a cell to mutate.

i.e. one puff of a cigar could potentially mutate a cell in your mouth/throat.

could be BS, but it makes sense to me
