Characters were great. Varric is a trademark BioWare standout.
Make no mistake, the plot at the very end utterly falls apart. Everything basically gets explained as "they went crazy". But the plot for most of the game was good. The tension between the qunari and the rest of Kirkwall, and then the tension between mages and templars, was good. The battle with the qunari was probably the best part of the story.
Did you play the game on PC? Combat worked basically the same as in DA: O, just more fast paced (and the camera was annoyingly locked onto your current character). You could still pause and plan tactics.
I tried to play the game through three times. And I only got to the end of chapter two before it became so repetitive that I couldn't take it any more. It was the longest 16 play throughs I ever played. I mean they should have named it DA: Ground Hogs Day.
