Characters were great. Varric is a trademark BioWare standout.
Make no mistake, the plot at the very end utterly falls apart. Everything basically gets explained as "they went crazy". But the plot for most of the game was good. The tension between the qunari and the rest of Kirkwall, and then the tension between mages and templars, was good. The battle with the qunari was probably the best part of the story.
Did you play the game on PC? Combat worked basically the same as in DA: O, just more fast paced (and the camera was annoyingly locked onto your current character). You could still pause and plan tactics.

I tried to play the game through three times. And I only got to the end of chapter two before it became so repetitive that I couldn't take it any more. It was the longest 16 play throughs I ever played. I mean they should have named it DA: Ground Hogs Day.

NO NO NO guys!!

You can't trust user reviews. You're all just sour grapes because it wasn't exactly like DAO.

I haven't played the game yet, at all, but I know everyone who didn't like it is just biased and living in the past.

:sneaky:

Where is Craig when you want a laugh.

Uninstall it and then use it as a REALLY expensive coaster. Mine has beer stains all over it now.

He's right. That really insults games that are Merely *That* bad.

I've played it 1.5 times. Is it so bad I want to puke? No. Is it playable? Yes. Repetitive, yes. Is it a bad game compared to DAO? Certainly. Would I buy DA2 again, or buy DA3? No.

But realize, I also think ME1 was the best, and ME2 and 3 were shitty linear cover based games that aren't worth money.

To answer OP's question, no.

There's no possibility to create complex and in-depth enough mods for Dragon Age 2 because as mentioned previously BioWare did not release their editor or creation kit, or whatever they used themselves for the community to produce mods as you would imagine them to be, beyond the obvious naked textures for females.

It might be interesting to note that DAO was developed on BioWare's own Eclipse engine, and then DA2 was developed on a modified version of it, internally called Lycium engine. I'm not sure why BioWare/EA decided not to release an actual official editor for DA2 but I'm pretty sure that they could have if they wanted to. It's not like they would have been given restrictions to do so had the game been developed on another engine like UE3 or any other that they wouldn't have created themselves.

With this said, Dragon Age 3 will be developed on the Frostbite 2 engine... so maybe that means that ultimately they won't release an editor either for DA3 to create mods so... I don't know, time will tell. And, anyway, DA2 wouldn't be worth it, if I was an experienced modder I wouldn't lose my time trying to throw perfume at a fuming pile of it. To make it worth it I would have to basically re-do the whole thing, in such case you might as well just mod for another game or start your own development studio while we're at it (I mean anything is better than trying to mod for DA2, c'mon).

Characters were cardboard cutouts easy enough to be read 5 seconds after meeting them.

The plot throughout the whole game was flawed. The disease affecting your sibling? Your mother getting killed? The lack of any real options during any of it (such as siding with the Qunari)? Completely underwhelming.

Combat sort of worked the same, but not really. They went to town on the whole "awesome" and "visceral" thing, having characters leap across the screen and do spectacular moves. "Fast paced" = less tactical. Position was completely useless as enemies poofed out of thin air. It was basically spam click click click click.

ITT: People confusing "I didn't like it" with "horrible".

No, both are true. I didn't like it. It was horrible. Worst RPG I've played in a long, long time.

I bet they didn't release mod tools in order to "increase" DLC sales. That is the lien of reasoning most companies seem to take.

Interestingly, Torchlight 2 doesn't have DLC BECAUSE it has modding tools..

Occam's razer applies here. I think that the simplest solution is that they didn't release a tool set because they didn't want to spend any time/resources developing one.

There is definitely the side benefit of increased DLC, but I think this was an added benefit and nothing more.
