are the riots in london enough reason for you to own a firearm?

Has anyone noticed that when riots start, the rioters seem to just destroy businesses and such in their own neighborhoods?

Saw that with the riots in our smallish town back in the late 1960's and the riots in east LA more recently and the current riots in Britain. Same pattern plays out over and over....and I've never understood that.

If they had respect for property or other people then they wouldn't be rioting/looting in the first place.

Yeah, I doubt that.

Those idiots were doing it and continuing to do it because they didn't fear anything. Once someone drops a couple of them they will get scared and run away.

Yep. There's tons of videos that show a shooting with multiple attackers on the victim, at the sound of the first pop, they all scatter at full speed.

Rioters in urban areas target businesses a majority of the time, not homes. Per square foot, a retail outfit has more dollar value than a home.

If I was a business owner in London, I would definitely pick up a firearm if I could.

Not the ones defending their property.

still didn't prevent the riot from gettting worse than London

Owning a gun makes me happier knowing I can kill anyone who tries to take my life.

The rioters didn't mess with that building though!

And in a mob scenario, an armed person versus hundreds of unarmed people is a no contest.
The armed person wins every time.

In a large riot situation, I'm not sure a firearm is going to help much. The crowd mentality will be similar to a zombie swarm. While you might kill a few, if their numbers are large enough, they will get you, get your gun, and tear you apart.

I carry every single day.

false.
as was already stated, once you drop a couple of "mobsters" with a few of rounds, the rest will flee.
gang members are mostly spineless cowards.

Except that zombies do not know fear or have much intelligence. If there is a mod after you and you explode the guts of 2 members with a few shotgun blasts, the rest of the people probably will go look somewhere else if they don't want to be next. Most individuals will not die for the good of the group. They are going to think "ya, he can't get all of us...but am I willing to be the 1 he does get?"

So ya, I got 2 @ 12ga shotguns, 1 Swedish Mauser rifle, 1 @ .22 rifle. I'd like to get a .40 or .45 if California didn't make it such a pain. I will likely get one in a year or so though. In the meantime my 20" 12 ga Mossberg can protect me.

Mods would just ban you from the comfort of their home.

They just reinvigorate my belief that the UK should not have guns, if we did there'd be hundreds dead. Thank god we did the right thing and banned guns.

How are you going to defend yourself against a bullet coming straight for your head, even if you have the biggest gun in the world?

i already carry daily. i also have supplies at my house just in case power/ utilities go out. being prepared doesnt mean im paranoid.

I lived in Los Angeles during the riots after the Rodney King verdict. I had a couple handguns but never needed to use them. Still, I was glad I had them.

you give up your rights to defend yourself and rely on the police, what you gonna do when they become the mob?

think it wont happen?

already did on St. Croix after a bad hurricane - http://www.nytimes.com/1989/09/21/u...in%20islands hugo&st=cse&pagewanted=print

"Carlos Harrison, a reporter for The Miami Herald, said he also saw a National Guard truck loaded with merchandise. ''They didn't look like they were delivering things,'' Mr. Harrison said."

When it really matters, the only person you can count on is yourself, I pity people that have deluded themselves otherwise.

People should definitely not give up the right to defend themselves.

Guns should be banned.

Well that's not possible. Look how it worked out for alcohol and drugs.

You cannot simple ban them, because no one would listen. Litterally, no one, except those that already don't have one.
