Interesting. So, we know the mods can view our supposed "private" messages, our passwords, our email addresses(should we have chosen to hide them) as well as IPs and any other information ever entered(or somehow accessable) through this site.

Watch your back. :)

How can they see our passwords should be encrypted?

I doubt they are encrypted. Also the MODS of course can read your PMs if they want. Is it ethical? No but if they are trying to crackdown on something don't think they can't read your PMs.

EDIT: BTW I thought the reason they don't allow coupons is so that Anandtech doesn't have to worry about legal repercussions of it. How would PMs cause any harm? I don't think it would but that is why I am not a MOD.

If I were a mailman, it'd be cool to read postcards at first.

But after awhile, it would get old.

I think it's like that.

Ah yes, and here we have another example of why I have not subscribed nor do I do business through pm's.

I figured they could read PM's if it came down to it. No big deal. As long as they do not get involved in my steamy love affairs with PAB, we are all good.

I would never write anything in PM, that I would regret if it came out in the open. I have no doubt that it could be read by someone other than just the mods, if someone really wanted to.

when dealing with a lying member it may be benificial to have mod-access to your messages to prove stuff......*shrug* i don't care if mine are private, heh, nothing important being discussed anyways.

how about AOL IM? Think those are private?

When do they decide that it is ok to look at someones PMs? Although the members were told not to post any coupons/coupon codes, how is someone who hasnt posted but asked someone in PRIVATE, breaking a rule? And why are they called Private Messages if they arent private? Is there anyone going around and reading the moderators email to see what kind of stuff they are getting?

How can that be compromised? I am asking because I do not know.

In the situation of CHUCHO, he clearly stated that he would not respond to any PMs asking for a PM in his original thread. However, a member eventually thanked him in a thread for responding with the coupon in a PM.

If you ever take a look in the registry under AOL, you'll find they keep tabs on all sorts of stuff... recent buddies... recent im's... there was more, I just don't remember right now.

The poor Mods have to suffer enough as it is reading the stuff posted on the forums,I can't imagine why they'd torture themselves further by reading your PM's.

However, if anybody's reading mine I would hope I'm on the Best Seller list... lol :D

It is their forum, their system, their resources, why not?

So long as RossMan and NFS4 are given equal punishments, I do not see a problem. Nothing against them, but they also broke the rules.(So far as I can tell. If they have not, please, someone correct me.)

Frankly, I am sure there is a double standard. NFS4 and RossMAN have been here for a while, and help everyone else out. Much more than a regular joe does. I have no problem with this. You help out, you get a few breaks. No regrets.

There does need to be a few more breaks given here and there on this forum but I do agree coupons had gotten out of hand.
