Are the gtx 1060 and 1070 compatible?

I currently have the GTX MSI 1060 6GB as my graphics card. I'm looking to upgrade my pc by getting a GTX MSI 1070 8GB in the future. But when I buy the 1070, my 1060 goes to waste. So I might aswell use the 1060 combined with the 1070 to make my pc even stronger. Am I able to do this if I get a motherboard with 2 GPU slots? Or will there be any errors that it simply wont work together?

Nope, GTX 1060 doesn't support SLI.

Just sell the 1060, or donate it to a family member. You could use it as a PhysX card, theoretically, but it really isn't worth the hassle.

Theoretically they might work together with DX12's EMA, but there aren't that many games that uses it currently.

My thoughts exactly. A bit harsh, but buying a brand-new GPU and upgrading within months is quite simply a bad idea. Why did you buy the 1060? And why do you want to upgrade? Budget? Disappointed by performance? Something else?

SLI only works with identical GPUs. It might work between different versions of the same GPU (say, an EVGA 1070 and an MSI one), but you'd have to run them at identical clocks. The 1060 doesn't support SLI at all.

What resolution are you gaming at? If it's below 2560x1440, I'd say keep the 1060 and save your money for another generation or two. The 1060 is a great 1080p card, and the 1070 is complete overkill. If you game at 1440p or higher, why did you buy the 1060? It's adequate for that at best - and every review in the world says so.
