This I refuse to listen to any music made prior to 1989 just on the principle that theres too much good music coming out now to live in the past.

Its not that there isn't good music prior to that time frame I'm sure there is but I have enough of a time keeping up with modern music. (Note I say modern not POPULAR)

Wow I thought you were just kidding at first.

As much as I dislike the beatles there is still plenty of great music to listen from prior generations.

So where did your old music come from them? Because it certainly wasn't original following your reasoning.

Every generation prefers their own music because it is theirs. Old people dont like new music, young people are bored by old music. It's an endless cycle. Old people never give new music credit because to most in this thread new music is still nothing more Nsync and Britney Spears and Justin Bieber because they don't care enough to look; they have no reason to. Young people want something new and want to claim something as their own so old music lacks appeal because it's spoken for.

Much wisdom in this post... Its amazing how most people dont seem to understand something as simple as this

You are all bashing Zokudu for what he said, but I feel exactly the same... I can hardly keep up with all the awesome music coming out nowadays, much less listen to stuff made before I was born

And just like darkwaffle said, you refuse to believe new music is as good or better than old music because you immediately think of popular crap that plays on radio/TV, not the REAL good music that is hidden from the mainstream

Really, why live in the past? My dad loves Pink Floyd and Led Zep like every other guy past 50, but he also loves some of the new metal bands I show him, because he is willing to expand his taste, something most of you cant do

without the beatles music would be far far diffrent then it is today. also even though the music is old. Also for music that old its still amazing to listen to. they were a great group.

nothing wrong with listening to old music and new. both times have some great music.

I really think that people who bash people who enjoy current music are thinking of popular music. I don't like a large amount of the stuff on Top 40 radio either but I don't have to go back to music my father listened to at my age to find something worthwhile.

Like I said I'm not trying to bash older music but I am perfectly capable of finding quality music made during my own lifetime.

Livin in the past I see. Since when is 10yrs ago recent. Looking at your list nobody on there has a hit albumn in the last few years. I'm in my 50's and a huge Beatles fan but thinking they are currently anything more than a nostalgia band that appeals to baby boomers is just foolish

I believe that list was for the last ten years (2000 to last year). I don't know how you get more current, since this year isn't over.

I was born in 89 and went through a "Beatles phase" for a couple years. Still like them too.

I love the Beatles and grew up on their music too. I was born in '89. Their music is definitely relevant for me. I own and enjoy Beatles Rockband. I don't know. I don't really care if other people don't like them, I will always love them a lot. That being said, it doesn't really matter to me that they're going to be on iTunes (I didn't even know that they weren't), as I already own a lot of their music.

Edit: Also, I fail to see why listening to older music = living in the past. Sure, some people listen to old music AND live in the past, but everyone is allowed to love the music that they love based on how it sounds or other factors. I like almost none of the contemporary popular music and almost all my music taste is from different time periods of the past. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy living in the present. It's just about individual music tastes.

Relevant, perhaps not much this days. But still a very big influence to artist past and present. I'll listen to their music any day versus some current group/s who claim that they are bigger than the Beatles were.

I've never understood their appeal beyond a few good songs, and I love old British rock and much other music of that era. I guess they're relevant in terms of their effect on the industry, but I have no desire whatsover to listen to them, so they're only incidentally relevant to me.

I'm 23 and they're my favorite band.

Haters gonna hate. I swear raging nerds have some superiority complex with things that are unpopular.
I know, it's one thing to hate on Justin Beiber (whom I personally can't stand), but it's other thing to hate on very popular, established musicians. I'm surprised no one's mentioned U2 yet. That bad has way more nerd hate than the Beatles.

I'm 30. I was born about 4 months before John Lennon died and about a month and a half before John Bonham died. The Beatles and Led Zeppelin are my two favorite bands. Will I be downloading any of their music, no because I own something like 15 different Beatles cd's and don't need to download them. Are they relevant? Hell yes, they're still the best band that ever existed.

I am actually not a huge fan of U2 I must admit. I like some of their stuff, but for the sheer volume of work they've done it surprises me how little I really enjoy. Same with Pink Floyd actually, I've never been a huge fan.

Relevant for making money? Yes. Old people like them and have money. But I don't think they are making many new fans as the years pass.

I think one or two of their song have come up on Pandora. My reaction was to o_O and thumb it down within thirty seconds.

My wife does not like them. Then again she considers any music released more than a couple of years ago "old". In contrast to me, I listen to mainly music from 1970 - 1990.
