Self esteem is viewing yourself in a positive light. Confidence is knowing that you can do something/anything and others will listen to you or follow you.

You had the confidence to post this thread, but your self-esteem will be lowered when you are ridiculed for your failure to use proper grammar.

I can have the idea that i value myself, and how important I am.
But, I can have low confidence in my ability to do something, or certainty.

I think a more appropriate synonym for confidence is self-efficacy.
Confidence by far. You can be confident that you will do the job properly, but still have low self-esteem. Or, you can have a very high self-esteem but still not be confident that you can flap your arms and fly to the moon. They are NOT the same thing.Originally posted by: Dear Summer
