Are recruiters/headhunters scumbags in general?

I can relate to several of the stories here. Headhunters familiarize themselves with your field's jargon and automatically assume they speak the language. They throw buzzwords at you, at their clients, and try to jam the two of you together.

To answer one person's question, no, their word means nothing to them. They have the attention span of a gnat and their recollection is even worse. I deal with them only when I must.

I dont find them to be scumbags. Every one of them I have worked with has been very nice. They are just doing their job, its not like they are constantly calling you every 30 minutes.

What field & skill level?

Some of us veterans in this arena should be willing to share our "prime hunters" with you.

I have a group of head hunters as well, some are better than others. I am on the job market as well, if anyone is interested in the people I use let me know

Experienced headhunters who have good working relationships with specific clients are golden. On the other side of the coin you have the bloodsuckers who don't know anything about the industry or anything about their client whose main goal is to shit out as many resume submissions as possible in hopes of landing someone and getting paid.

I hate the saying, but "it is what it is".

Generally speaking, yes.

But I actually ran into one company that surprised me. I moved from Pittsburgh to Seattle last year, and I had been planning it for a while. I tossed my resume at a few headhunters to see if I could land a higher paying contract job prior to leaving - just to try to build up savings faster.

One place called me in for an "interview" that consisted of me writing down all of my info and giving them permission to submit my resume. That was it.

The 2nd company I actually had a 20 minute interview with a guy, then his superior came in because he saw that I was working for a company they occasionally provide staff for. We bullshitted for a bit, and I explained my plans. Nothing came of it - I ended up moving before hearing of any bites, but they did sit and talk to me and gave me some advice (that I don't remember) even when they realized it probably wasn't going to lead to anything. I didn't expect to be treated as a human, it was kind of refreshing.

<--- scumbag

No really, there are all types, just like any other profession. I work for a small company, fill specific jobs, and reach out only to the most qualified.

Have I forgotten to call someone back? Sure but I do my damnedest. I can't count how many times people have started a relationship and then fallen off the face of the planet. Not to mention the ones that set up an interview with a client and bail with no warning...
